I have used a Fivemega MOP reflector with a 8.38mm opening when I had my ROP build, and I found it created a pleasant smooth hotspot (maybe even wanted a little less artifacts). I switched my 2C Mag to the AW smart driver, powering a Philips 5761 bulb. To accomodate this bi-pin bulb, I got a Fivemega VLOP reflector with a 10.5mm opening. The reflector fits great, but the VLOP finish allows for lots of artifacts in the beam.

I was wondering if anyone makes 10.5mm MOP reflectors? Is it possible to widen the opening on my 8.38mm one without ruining the finish?

I was able to enlarge the hole on my FM MOP reflector using a dremel tool and grinding bit. I managed not to damage the inside of the reflector for the most part, I scuffed it a couple of times when the bit popped through the hole, but it is pretty minor and in use you don't notice it. The other thing to watch for is I noticed that the edge of the hole had a sharp lip after enlarging, so I filed it down a bit to knock that edge off. I did the enlarging so that I could use it with a Terralux dropin and it works well, and still works fine with my ROP setup too.

I have enlarged a few reflectors using a step drill. Go nice and slow and drill from the outside in.

There are a few small minor scratches around the edge of the enlarged hole from the stray swarf which falls down, rather than pulled up by the drill.

This can be minimised by stopping frequently and carefully remove any swarf/debris.
