Most Trusted News Sources

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

The various radio talk shows I listen to during the day.

All of those guys draw material from more papers than I could ever hope to see. Besides, I get to hear what many people THINK about it as well.

If I MUST watch TV news, it's FOX.

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

Drudge Report! At least He's honest! He's frequently accused of having a right wing bias, but retractions are extreeemly rare! He embarresses the rulers on a frequent basis, and ain't politically correct.

Google News... because there are always lots of different views of a story, and I get to pick and choose. It's pretty interesting going to some random place rather than sticking to the usual NY Times/CNN/Fox News sites.

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

the daily show on comedy centrel is juornailm at its finast

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

Fox News, because it’s fair and balanced. No political agenda can be detected./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif I also like The O’Reilly Factor

See you in the No Spin Zone

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

Well, these are not usually a news source, but a fairly wide compendium of sources:

http://www.drudgereport.com/
http://newsmax.com/
http://www.lucianne.com/
http://www.andrewsullivan.com/
http://www.airamericaradio.com/ (just kidding /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

And sometimes Iraqi and other non-professional weblogs for interesting opinions and other views of the news.

In actual definition--I don't "trust" any single news source or article--no matter who wrote it (liberal or conservative).

First, everyone has their own biases, and add in those of the editor and owners--you get a real slant on the news.

Second, I have seen many news accounts of what happened in events that I was either had first or second hand knowledge of the facts. And the articles were only about 50% accurate.

So--my truism is that 50% of the news is accurate and 50% is not--the problem is figuring out which is which... That is why I will read many of the primary sources listed above, but only take it with a grain of salt until it has been cross verified by multiple sources.

However, when I see consistent slating or errors in reporting--I will pretty much ignore those as a reliable source for anything other than commentary, sports and weather.

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

I don't have any one favorite. I think you have to do a lot of investigation on your own these days. All news is "spun" in one way or another. The idea is to get you to tune in to them. So you have to check out all kinds, paying attention to the way words are used, and what is not said. It is even important that you listen to news that comes accross in way, or format that you don't agree with. After all if you only pick, and choose the news you want to hear, the way you want to hear it, it won't be fair and balanced, and you can't in all fairness make good decision. Question everything.

Ever notice lately how all the news is pulled from the API wire, or Reuters. No real news hounds any more.

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

raggie & Lebkeeecher, you guys break me up. Actually, though, C-Central is pretty telling and, thankfully, NOT politically correctomundo.

Anybody watch C-SPAN?

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

this is easy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I always chose the most negative sounding news, imagine it actually even worse and I am mostly right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif
I trust in the worst and it rarley lets me down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

Drudge is pretty good, though doesn't it seem as though, with the exception of a headline, all the news that's there at 9 am is pretty much still there by the end of the day, as if there's never any news updates throughout the course of the day? I notice that at a lot of sites, googlenews, too.

For fair and balanced, though, nothing touches The Economist, which is online, too. It's British, so no TIME/Newsweek underlying agendas, no articles on who was best dressed. In fact, if it hadn't been for The Economist, I NEVER would have known about the really bad war two years back between Eritrea and Ethiopia, in which human waves were thrown at entrenched troops, a la World War One. As far as the American media is concerned, there is no life outside our sphere of "interest."

Re: Most Trusted News Sources

Kiessling & Kitchener, yes, it's unfortunately true, one must, often, exit the USA's airwaves to get the big picture. We have the means but not the mentality to reach for the world view.
