The Challenger has a higher power to weight ratio than the 390 GT Mustang but is longer & heavier overall and thus less nimble on tight and twisty roads (like most of those in the movie), the 0 - 60 MPH times favour the Challenger by 1 second which places the cars closer than one might initially think when you add the mass of an additional passenger.
The difference was significantly more than one second. That aspect of the movie came out decades ago.

I remember how the producers had to throw in some movie magic.
In reality, McQueen's character's Ford Mustang would never have been able to keep up with the Dodge Charger that the bad guys were driving.
According to this article, the Charger used in the chase scenes had a 383 motor so the 390 Mustang was a good match. Speaking from experience; I had a '68 383 Roadrunner in HS and raced a few 390 Mustang GTs back in my prime...

In no particular order,

Harry potter series (Nothing comes close in the world of wizardry)
Die hard (All of them)
Goodfellas - (I'd say best mob movie of all time) Hopefully nobody has a heart attack over that statement.
Casino
Rocky ( All of them)
Lethal Weapon (All of them)
Tango and Cash

I've lost count how many times I've watched all of these movies, heck just thinking about them makes me want to go throw one on, though I don't have the time sadly! haha.

I cannot find Terminator on VHS and I have been looking since springtime.
Yikes VHS! Actually I have a Philips DVD/VHS combo which has worked fine for 15 years despite being a "refurb"; lots of old movies on VHS still alive, such as The Abyss (also have on DVD now), Backdraft (also DVD), L.A. Confidential, White Light, Hunt for Red October, etc.
