Im using a 12v 50w 10 degree MR16 as a bike light, very happy with all it does, but the body of the light is shocking.

Im looking for ideas of what to mod to hold the lamp in place, I can get my hands on all the usual basic tools but no lathe.

Hope I can find a few ideas as I don't want to buy a pond light and bolt that onto my bike where's the fun in that.

:thanks: in advance.

landscape lighting. do a google search for the pond scum light. its simple and easy

50w is a lot to run for a bike light. Thats 4.16amps. your going to need a big battery to run that for a while. Try somthing a little smaller like say 10-20. I've used both a 10w flood mr11 and a 20w mr16 spot. both have worked great. I wish i had a 10w spot but no one im my area sells them. i know you can get them tho.

Good luck with the build.

Thanks Rogue, im using a 12v 7ah battery it gets me home and gives me a light brighter than anything ive seen :twothumbs

I just need a housing for it might have to be a pond light:duh2:

Im trying to get my head around buckpucks,p7's,heatsinks and all that, but for now the MR16 is the daddy.

ya the mr11 and mr16 where my first bike builds very easy and simple. the battery just weighs a lot. look at building stores and secend hand shops for landscape light houseings and for old mr16 light fixtures that can be taken apart to get what you want.

I ended up butchering a D-Cell MagLite (£15 from B&Q)

First I stripped out the old switch etc. I fitted the MR16 50w 10* lamp it just dropped in. I stretched the spring from the end cap and fitted it up against the C clip that was the stop for the old switch it now pushes the lamp forward and stop it rattling. The handle was cut to length and the old switch hole was used as a fixing point for the 22mm pipe clip, the clip is a very tight fit onto my bars and with a piece of inner tube stops the lite moving (just been to the woods to give it a good test)
I'll put a beam shot up as soon as I can get hold of a camera my phone camera is not the best as you can see:duh2:

First light done more to come:grin2:

Did you re-thread the cut section of the battery tube? If so, which end and how'd you do it?

I've got CNC anodised units specially designed for MR16 bulbs. I also make lamps for anyone interested. These are fitted with Philips Masterline ES bulbs, so a 30w Masterline puts out as much light as a 50w standard. Toggle switch and 2.5mm DC socket fitted. Please mail me or respond to this thread if your interested.

Cheers.......Rooster:wave:
