I just got my MTE light from Deal Extreme 2 days ago.

It's a good light- I was slightly disappointed at first- only because I expected tremendous power from the reviews. It is quite powerful. I took some shots compared to my D-Mini. The Mini has a tighter spot and a more narrow spill- so it appears stronger. The MTE light and the Mini are both smooth reflectors. THe MTE light has a spot more like a mild orange peel, and a wider spill. I'd say total power is equal or slightly better than the Mini. It has a much more useful beam- as far as walking outside with the light ( or inside).
D-Mini on left- MTE on right. High power THe spot of the MTE blends very well in actual use into the spill.

Here are some ma readings I took with different batteries.
(2) 3.7 v Li-ion unprotected 780ma
(2) 3.0 v Li-ion protected 500ma
(2) 123a Titanium 400ma
(1) 17650 Li-ion unprotected 190ma

Don't laught at the 17650..it makes a great inside light- and will give a very long lasting beam at a decent output for outside walking too.

The output from the primaries is quite strong- not as much diffenence as the ma would indicate.

FOr the price- the light is well built- but not as heavy duty as the more expensive Lumapower, ect lights. The head could also be turned to get the focus just right! I give it 4 stars.

Lighthouse One,

How much brighter did you think it would be?
I am curious, because I thought the same exact thing. I ended up trying to modify mine to make it brighter, but after one too many modifications I screwed up my SSC P4.
I installed a Edison Edixeon with direct drive and I find the beam to be brighter with a better focused spot and good spill. I also bored the body to take an 18650 battery for 1 1/2 hour runtime on high. There is also a very distinct difference between high and low where there was not much difference before.

I think direct drive works great for the (1) 3.7 volt li-ion batteries. I believe you get a good amount of power- don't know if it's max or not.

I have to add -now that I've seen Ledite's reviews..he figured out that the light has 2 resistors and is not regulated by a circuit. I don't like using (2 )3.7 volt 123a's...I've had some minor problems already- besides short run times. I like using 18560 or 17650 batteries if I can. While this is still a powerful light and has a very nice throw and spill..be aware that the light gets warm fast- and does waste 40% of it's power through the resistors! I'll probably mod mine to run off of the 17650- if I can get a .9 ohm resistor anywhere!
