MTE SSC P7 from DX

What really counts when bike riding is 'lux' (punch froward) not 'lm' as the faster you go the more you need the light to be projected ahead of you... with such a large focal point its hard to get good 'lux' out of a P7... its more of a flood type beam rather than a spot type...

I've been looking at the 4 die emitter - MTE SSC P7 900-Lumen 5-Mode Super LED Flashlight from DealExtreme.

DX feedback seems to put this light at roughly 400 lm. That's a lot of light for $45.

Is this the best bike use flashlight currently available? Has anyone tried one?

They seem to get great reviews, I read about them here initially:

My concern about these lights is the build quality. Checking around on this forum, it seems quite a few people have had to rewire them etc to get them to work as advertised.

Anyone recommend another floody P7 for bike use that's perhaps a bit better built but not too much more expensive?

I beg to differ, having used a P7, more specifically, this one. IMO they're pretty much ideal as bike lights; nice and floody, but with enough punch to give you 30 to 40 metres vision without problems. TBH, with any cheap DX P7 light, there's a chance you'll have to rewire it. At least with the models that have been out for a while you know how high the failure rate is going to be....

I use an MTE P7 for night rides they are great! For the money you won't go wrong. Admittedly I have a halogen lumicycle set-up as well but the P7 works nice on it's own.

I'd carry a spare batt though.
