I'll start by saying, I love seeing picture build logs fellow CPF members produce, this is my first attempt to produce a build log... 🙂
This is the build of my 800+ lumen mag for $55 project... for background on the project, please see the design page:

How do I get that price?
Cut down the reflector
Cam removed from the reflector, leftover plastic filed down
Comparing the stock heatsink to the new heatsink
Test fit the stock heatsink (I buggered it a little with the drimmel, whoops)
New LED. XML T6 bin 2B color
LED star filed down to fit (designed the heatsink hole a touch too small)
stock switch assembly
switch parts before modification
after switch mods
wire left over from previous build... mil spec, 22 guage silver coated stranded copper, teflon insulation
used deoxit gold to reduce contact resistance
Contact parts treated with deoxit gold
Switch re-assembled
shiningbeam 2.8 amp driver, accupower 10Ah LSD D cells (not included in price)
Test fitting driver heatsink
Driver attached to heatsink, attached to LED heatsink
LED wired up
test fire the LED, the lights are still on, but the camera adjusted for the bright LED
entire heatsink assembly sunk into mag tube
final product
a few more pictures are available at:

No beamshots yet, but it is bright!

How do I get that price?
- 3D MAG led host, black friday special: $15
- Shinningbeam 2.8amp driver : $7.50
- Custom heatsink (thanks Tekno_Cowboy): $15
- XML LED: ~ $10
- That leaves a little $$ for consumables... wire, epoxy, etc
