Well my light is now working and I've just been ot for a blast with my helmet cam on and here's the result - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yJE39-fZaZs

For more info on the build have a look here - http://iggs.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!542D85D9A7BA4A4B!193.entry

You might notice the light is flicking every 5 seconds or so. That because I'd set the warning on the maxflex 1 volt (1 click:thinking: ) too high. This is now solved

Very nice! Forgive me if this is a newbie question:How do you regulate brightness with this setup? Does the Fatman driver handle that or do you have to do it externally?

I'm using the Maxflex which has the UI as the other flex boards. have a look at the Taskled.com website for info. Under technical there is a download for the Maxflex_ui.pdf

Works really well

Nice -- looks good. :twothumbsAnd an excellent downhill run, too. I wish one of the multitude of halogen light heads I had was aluminum!

PS - the video really gives a feel for the lights at speed that you don't get from normal beam shots. Thanks!

No width of beam is perfect but the spill from this set up does give enough for my perifferel(spell?) vision to pic up the track pretty well even on the 180 switchbacks its just bullet cam isn't up to the job of picking it up properly.

The heatsinking seems to be working ok, the outer is certainly getting pretty warm if it running 1000mA inside not moving. I haven't heat sinked the Maxflex. Its right on the border of what George recommends and I'm changing to a different battery type very shortly which will solve this too (7.2volt from 6 volt).

I'm still keen on 2 of your switches if they are available. I'm not in the position to have a min-t but at least I can have a bit of one :)

More video's here http://uk.youtube.com/ianganderton and http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=9001854831107703340 including a variety of helmet and motorbike mounted footage. Definitely a good way of recording fun and frolicks

Great vid Iggs and the light looks good too.
Get it heatsinked well?

Looked like you needed a flood on that track though -some hairy looking corners on there?

Have to look into those bulletcams a bit more -had a look at your blog with the canoe -fantastic

I see Szemhazai found some remotes.

Hi Iggs
The switches will be done shortly -just working on a batch now.
Can you solder some copper to the maxflex heat pad and AA the other end to the inside of the housing?
I think even some heavy duty wire should do the trick.

How long did you run it inside for -how heavy is the housing? Should be untouchable within 10mins at 1000ma 20C ambient.

I'll have a peek at them vids -thanks :)

Dom,

The problem is working out the order to put it together. My wiring and soldering experience is limited to the bits I've done to to put this light together. I'm trying to work out where to attach the maxflex heat sink to on the case.

I'm really happy with the heat transfer from the led's, the case gets really warm (untouchable) nice and quickly when running @ 1000mA on the kitchen table. Out on the bike running 1000mA it only gets 'just warm' and thats with an out side air temp of between 10C and 13C.

Until I solve the problem of heat sinking the maxflex I'm going to run the lights at 750mA as this provides plenty of light and avoids the problem

Hi Iggs
I suppose not being able to get into the back of the case would make it hard to sink the driver anyway.
It's not as if you are driving it as hard as what the flashlight people are doing anyway.

750ma is heaps anyway -hard to tell the difference between that and 1A.

Cheers
Dom
