Ok, my intention was to use my new Fenix L1D-CE as my new EDC. Well, it's a bit too big for that in my opinion.

I need something that's the size of a Fenix P1 or smaller. But here's the thing... I need it to have a clicky, and have some way to carry it on my keyring.

Now I know somebody is already thinking about recommending some cheap photons to me... but I want a good amount more light then that. It doesn't have to blind the world, but decent output (maybe 40 to 80 lumens or so) would be cool.

If possible, I would like it to have multiple output modes / levels.

To summerize:
1. P1 size or smaller
2. A Clicky for easy one handed operation
3. Some way to carry it on my keyring
4. Decent light output at least
5. Multiple modes / levels (a bonus)

Let's see if you guys can knock this one out of the park. Come on fellow flashnerds... do me right :)

Im not sure if lights smaller than the L1d have clickies on them. I may be wrong. If you want something smaller you will have to sacrifice some things.

You're just asking for too much, at least for right now. Given the length required for the reflector (esp the Cree), electronics, and battery, that doesn't leave a lot of room for a clickie switch, which requires a lot of length itself.

Measure it out for yourself and you'll see.

No such light that I know of - YET.

However look at this mod Cree XR-E in Fenix L1/2T

On a Nekomane CR123 body it's not quite as small as a P1 (closer to the P1D-CE) - but close, and it has the standard L1T clicky.

It certainly is on par with the P1D-CE when using primnary CR123A or 3.7V Li-Ion rechargeable RCR123.

I didn't do my mod - but it is not that difficult.......
I'm sure there are lots of very capable people on CPF who could do it,
or at least advise........

Hahahahaha! You're funny :)

:(

Does that mean no? :mecry:

The only smaller clicky that I know of is the JetBeam, but if the L1DCE was too big for you, I doubt the JetBeam will make much difference. It's about 5mm shorter, and a couple mm thinner.

I've got a shelf-queen JetBeam MkI in black that I'll trade you for your L1DCE straight across. :naughty:

What kind of tube does it have... 1AA, 2AA, 123???

Something should be coming soon that might suit your needs. Sorry, I can't say any more about it.

Anyway, I would recommend the Fenix L0D-CE. It is not a clickie, but is a very nice size for the keychain and puts out plenty of light. I believe it puts out as much light as my old Fenix L1P, but I cannot find the L1P right now. Another light that doesn't meet your needs for a clickie but is keychain sized is the Orb NS. Don't hear much about it now, but last I checked they started putting Crees in the little things.

Also, I bet if you could find a pocket clip for the L1D-CE you would find it "small" enough. I hardly notice my 2-celled A2 when it is clipped to my pockets, but with the L1D-CE I can feel it at the bottom of my pocket. With a pocket clip, however...

I think Carrot knows something we don't know.

L0D-CE's are nice, but no clicky, no deal.

I do like my L1D-CE... but it's just a bit too big for the keyring.

The twistie on my L0D CE is a pleasure to use one handed. If all the Fenix twisties had been this good, folks like me wouldn't lust for clickies. It's incredibly smooth and easy to turn one handed and I've yet to have it skip any levels due to a momentary false activation. I actually find it easier to use than a clickie one handed.

I also have an L0P SE that's not nearly as good and a P1D CE that's ridiculously loose. A small piece of teflon tape (1/4 of the circumference) on the L0P SE improved the reliability a lot but it's harder to turn than my L0D CE. The P1D CE took several wraps around the full circumference to make reliable but it also makes it very hard to turn and I've had to periodically add more tape as it gets worn. I'm waiting for a replacement now which I hope will be a LOT better as mine was from an early batch with the loose thread problem.

I have an L1P and rarely carried it due to its' size. The P1D CE is a LOT nicer to carry either in my pocket or in the sheath on my belt. I've got a Jetbeam CLE on the way from the group buy since it was hard to resist at the price but have no interest in the L1D CE due to its size and my past experience with the L1P.

If the twisty on the L0D is similar to the E1 I'm using, then its actually quite usable one handed \ wearing gloves. Even for reliable momentary\rapid cycling through modes - the action is very nice.
