Some time ago I started a mod taking a black 2D Maglite as a base. I was always a fan of Maglites so I wanted to have a bikelight made out of a Maglite. Finished my first version with an SSC P7 some time ago which you can see here.

I did some modificications to it also to get the technology up-to-date. I used Der-Wichtels latest 4-mode 2.8A driver and a 3000K warm-white XM-L. I swapped out the lens for a frosted UCL-lens from flashlightlens.com and the reflector is a smooth aluminium reflector. And then I let the hosting get powder coated in a black color matching the color of my bike 😉.

So here is the result:

I while test it in the next days and maybe I can get some nice beamshots in action 😉. I had fun making this light and I hope you like it.

That's a beautiful looking finish. Great job on the whole project!

Thanks 😉.

Had it lying for quite some time with the P7 until I thought it could use a update. Unfortunately it doesn't see the use I inteded it for 🙁.

The same with me ;(.

Did a test drive yesterday and I have to say it really came out great. The UI needs a little bit to get used to (you turn it on by pressing and then switch the modes from high-medium-low-very low by holding) but it is really useful. In the city I turn on the very low mode for just being seen and in the countryside the frosted lens gives a nice wide beam. Only in very sharp turns would be a secondary light, maybe on the helmet, useful.

Here is a picture of the beam, I made is with my phone camera so it doesn't do justice at all. But you can see how the beam looks like with a big hotspot and a wide sidespil:
