dayton,oh
we have three S/L 4aa led and just bought two g2L with aluminum heads. the g2l has a beautful beam with a good spot and a wide, white corona. good runtime with top quality. but, my s/l 4aa throws further and is brighter! my wife sees the same thing. we looked at the beams on white walls and also in the backyard on some trees and my shed(about 75 feet away). the corona on the s/l is smaller and dimmer. perhaps the deep reflector on the s/l is better for throw at the expense of reduced corona. running enloope in s/l and s/fire bat in the g2l. the small size of the g2l fits the pocket better than the s/l. s/l on alkalines will light up with a fair beam even when the batteries will not read on the zts tester. haven't gotten the s/fire batteries low enough to compare this. very impressed with the g2l, but amazed at how well my s/l 4aa led performs considering the cost. we are very happy with both lights, each having their place.

Wow, 3 ProPoly Lux's and 2 G2L's? You have a small arsenal of great lights.

I have a Streamlight ProPoly 4AA Luxeon, but alkalines ate it up  I just got a SureFire G3L (same brightness as the G2L). I agree, both are great lights. My Mom still has her ProPoly Luxeon (my favorite Christmas gift about a year or two ago).

I'd agree with you about the beams. The G3L has a broader, bluer, beam that is great for indoors or walking. The ProPoly has a whiter beam with more throw, but is still useful for walking. Both are great all around lights and have just about a perfect level of brightness for a one brightness level light.

I have lamented the death of the ProPoly. It dawned on me that the G3L fit that nitch of a tough, plastic-so-you-don't-worry-about-it-so-much, powerful, long lasting LED really well. It is the combination of adequate light and long runtime that makes them so appealing.

How about some pics of yours together?

Edited to add:

The ProPoly is more affordable at about $25. I got my G3L for $45 from a brick and mortar store, but it lists for $89 online. It seems like the B&M stores aren't held to price fixing as much as the internet stores now. The G2L and the G3L are smaller. The G2L and G3L are more easily modified with drop in bulbs. They both do have plastic lenses though that will have to be replaced if you are running powerful incan bulbs. The ProPoly has a forward clicky where the SureFires have a twisty/momentary switch. I used to hate the idea of a twisty, but it doesn't bother me now and I think they are less prone to breakage than a clicky. The ProPoly takes more common AA batteries. The correct answer, of course, is to get them all :D

I was sitting here and thinking of what kind of light I should get for work. I was almost totally sold on the G2L, but the SL Propoly AA pops up every time I think of what light I should get as a work light. I will probably have to buy them both if the propoly wont come with a better led soon. Then Ill get the G2L now and wait for the newer SL.

Theres just to many choices out there when you want a new light. Cant buy them all....I would go :broke: and "wife" (GF) would go :whoopin:

From left to right here are my G3, ProPoly 4AA Luxeon, and G3L. Sorry for the poor picture. For those of you that don't know, the 4AA ProPoly holds the batteries side by side, so the body is oval in shape and not as wide all around as shown in the picture. The ProPoly is very comfortable to hold. A G2L should be about an inch shorter than the G3L.

I mentioned adantages and disadvantages of the lights. One thing that may matter to some is that the ProPoly has a non-replaceable plastic lens.

I've got 4 Seoul modded Propolys and just ordered 2 more! The Seoul mod makes the Propoly sooooo much better.

So which light would you suggest I get? Im choosing between a yellow G2L, or a regular G2 and adding a DX cree drop in, and a Streamlight Propoly Lux 4AA. I cant buy both right now, and have to choose one of them. Im going to use it at work and the light are going to be dropped, get greasy, and has to operate easily with working gloves!

The price difference is not so big, propoly $29, G2 w dx drop in $47.

They are both very durable lights. Maybe you should base your purchase on the battery type. 123s vs AAs. Also, the G2 is a lot more compact then the Propoly.

I guess I have to buy both eventually... If I dont, I will go around and wonder whether I would be more satisfied with the other... Buy them one at the time I guess.

This hobby really is a disease... :)
