i modded my leadlight minutes ago.
im not positive if its a 105 or a 110
but i know its < 5mW cause it says it on the danger tag...i did the pot mod on it to put it as bright as possible.
pointed it at my skin an 2 seconds later i feel pain. like when you burn yourself with a magnifing glass.

it will even burn black plastic bags.
im not mad or anything but i didnt think the pot mod could to that, i though it just brightend it.

my other question is.
i wanted to make sure, does the pot mod cause the laser to loose its life span faster?(if so, when you i expect it to die)

how many mW is needed to burn?(how many do i have?)

the company i bought it is www.azeotek.com
they seem pretty reliable. an ill post picks but im sure this is a real leadlight.
also there about 15 minutes away form me so if i get a problem i can go to the address.
on there site its 49.89 usd for a laser plus 4.99 usd tax
but if you check on ebay they have them for 46 dollars including tax

did it have red and black wires on the PCB or did you just crank up the pot through the pinhole?

Sounds like you got a really good leadlight, or a knockoff that has a LOT of IR leakage..

the pot mod can cause diode damage, especially if you do not keep your runtime down. don't overheat it and it should last a long time.

i just turn the pinhole screw thing

also would i need safety glasses with this

it has the indicator led so it's a 110/115.

i think you've got an awesome leadlight. you can't get much better than that. Just keep a duty cycle ( like 1 min on 20-30sec off ) and it should last forever... and resist the urge to tinker with it anymore. I don't think you can do much better, but i know you can really mess it up with 1 wrong move. :)

glass wouldn't be a bad idea.. just grab some dewalt laser glasses or something for $10.. all the protection you'll ever need with a greenie.

If it's doing all that you say, it should be at least 40mw and possible 10-mw or more it would realy depend on the divergance, convergance of the laser.. if the focus is off you could have a pinpoint where it burns well, but isn't very well collimiited. glass will let you see the real dot size and how much it chages over distance.

well...i burnt the back of my moms leg from 7 feet away. thats just holding ti steady as possible.

ive been testing it on random objects painted black. an i can burn a styrophone(sp) plate after about 5 seconds.

would adjusting the pot frequently messes it up. like if i wanted to turn the brightness down one day then turn it higher some other time. depending on what im using it for

Sure gets my vote for intelligent statement of the day. :goodjob:

Maybe she should take it away for a year or two?

she let me lol, i wanted to see how far i could be for it to still be felt. i dont have a 7 foot armspan to do it on myself

GOGGLES! and don't hand it to any of your friends without a warning about the permanence of blindness, having a felony on your record for pointint it at airplanes/helis, and just plain common sense. That goes for you, too.

Goggles - a definite need ! And stop burning people ! Take a piece of paper with a black mark on it - put a rubber band, or tie strap across the button of the laser - and walk from about 20 feet or so, getting closer slowly. When you see the paper start to smoke, then you have your max distance - or at least a good ball park figure ! Then run over, and release the button. Try to do all of this in less than a minute, so you don't smoke the diode ! Above all else - be careful !!!

if you adjust it will will mess it up.. seriously you've got a FREAK leadlight. like i said if it does all that you say.. keep that one in a drawer for whatever and buy another one to mess with.. I guarantee you you'll never find another leadlight as good as the one you have already. anything you do to it will make it worse.

and get a pair of these asap.. cheap and better than my od6 $250 lasercheck glasses. http://www.toolbarn.com/category/dewalt/laserglasses/

in fact if you plan on playing with you new "big scary laser" you should buy enough so everyone around you can have a pair.

lol, i dont need the talk about not pointing it at people an planes an stuff. i dont even trust my friends to touch my wallet..there just not that smart when it comes to this stuff.

ill try to get a video but i need to find a better angle. otherwise the brightness washes out the area an you cant see whats burning.

i guess i need to save up. if i want another one.

anybody round here need gas airsoft guns(new) lol

Cdawg ! Nice shots...to REALLY see it well - film from the back side :) Dim the lights a tad to see the beam in the smoke really well. It DEFINITELY shows it off very well to be a good freak, though ! Congrats on your successful mod ! that is fantastic ! No more frying Mom though ! LOL

i wanted to try popping balloons but all i had was a latex glove i also didnt have anything black so i just colored a little blue square....i also forgot to plug the mic an so theres no sound...

I modded a leadlight to similar power, but the crystals (I think) don't handle much abuse. DON'T leave it on. DUTY CYCLE IS A MUST. Use it 10 seconds or less and let it cool appropriately. Keep what you've got and don't mod it further.
