I finally got the Seoul Stars I ordered for my Mag Mod , so I went to work.

I wanted to use one of my favorite McGizmo reflector, the McR20 .
I've made one with McR17 and McR19XR so I wanted to try it with the McR20.

You can see Modamags heatsink in the background, Perfect Tri-Star Sink PTS-2 D mailnly used for the McR17XR reflector.

The Seoul Stars epoxied to the headsink..

The stars are going to be wired serial , note how the polarity has been arranged.

Stars have been wired together...

Test fitting the McR20 Reflectors...looking good..I originally ordered the McR20-S reflectors, but they are a little bit short. I might still use them later if the beam is not optimum.

But its looking cozy in there....

Looks like the IMS20 reflectors will work too..

Got the shark wired ready to go...

Now Its time to get started on the mag switch....

I used a hacksaw to take the top portion of the switch off..

Not the prettiest job, but its going to be hidden anyways..

Got it wired also...

Its all ready to to..

240867088.jpg

Put it all together...and Voila.!!!!!

Ill fire it up soon and will report on the results...Ill compare it with my Tri-cree mag mod...

Sweet looking light! I'm just getting into LED and was wondering if you could post a list of the parts that you used and where I might be able to find them. Also, what batteries are you going to use and where did you get the cut down mag host? I'll probably just use a regular 2D mag host for this. Thanks for any info you can provide.
Seth

Thanks Seth,

Welcome to the LED world...I love it ....
I have the Cutdown MagD for this mod, its going to use a 4AA to 1D battery holder..
I have a Mag2D also that has been modded with a Tri-Cree configuration.
Let me know which LED you want to use and I will get you that parts list..

Nice job - great pictures

I have been doing lots of work on the Minis - It might be time to go up in size. The list of parts and suppliers would be helpful.

thanks

1 Shark Converter...

You would need 4 Seouls to run a 8aa-2D battery holder as the input would be over the total VF of the LEDS. When using the Shark the Input voltage must be less that the Forward voltage of the LED's 🙂

How about using a 6AA to 2D FM adapter instead? Exactly what voltage do I need to run three CREE stars? How much voltage to run a quad CREE setup? Thanks.

Yes...you are correct..Thanks Mac.. I forgot to add the 2 dummy cells in the list.......:grin2:

They are out of the 6AA to 2D at the shoppe , so Im using the 8AA instead..
Also if using all 8AA,one would need to bore the body to make it fit...
I think some have had luck without having to bore it, but I have not..

I have a 4 cree set up on a Mag2C using 2 x 17500 li-ion , can also use 2 x 18650's . They are rated at 3.7v - 4.2v a piece...

I also have a 4 cree set up on a Mag1c using just 1 x 18650 . of course this is not as bright as it could be, but it works for what I need ..

Mac has done quite a bit of these mods , so he is the man to talk to ..

Nice build. Do you think that the poor little sharky is gonna get hot?

The shark is pretty good, I have not had to worry about it much, the LED's are the ones that you have to worry about heating up..
