My new D10

I finally joined the Nitecore D10 club. 4sevens shipping was very fast. A couple observations.
The light had much less lubrication than expected. The piston was lightly greased and works very smoothly. The o-ring on the head however had nearly no grease. No big deal. Easy to fix.

I was also suprised that the warranty card is now a fold over cardboard piece instead of the original plastic card. (My D10 is a Q5 version) Finally the o-rings are now black in color. It came with 2 spares, a smaller thick one which I assume is for the piston, and a larger thinner one which looks to thin for the bezel/head. Any idea what this is for? Or did they send me the wrong spares kit.

As for operation, when the head is tightened up, the logos are on opposite sides, and the piston travel is too short. I think it works better backed off with the logos aligned. Not sure if this is a defect or the intentional design.

The Q5 emitter has a silver background instead of yellow. Is this usual? (the actual chip is of course yellow)

Thanks in advance,

Steve

ps. Fit and finish of the light is superb

Re: New D10

MY "old" one that was a pre-order last year works best when the head is loosened a bit. Maybe there is some variation in the lights or maybe it is just variation in owner preferences. ..

Re: New D10

The spare's kit that came with mine had the same o-rings, and as for the backing of the cree it can either be yellow or silver.

Re: New D10

My D10 R2 seems to be draining the battery usually fast with my limited use. It has been mostly sitting on the shelf since I got other lights in to play with. I have installed a newly charged Eneloop and let it sit. If the battery dies in a week, the light is going back to 7777s. You may want to keep an eye on this for you new light.

MY D10 has black o-rings, and the logos are about an inch misaligned.
I've never heard of a fold-over warranty card...
What is the full serial number of your D10?

Re: New D10

I think they went to a new serial# scheme because mine is C0618US 000250

Re: New D10

My D10 is over a year old and it came with clear o-rings.....guess they decided to change it up a bit.

I have had this problem with my EX10. This is not enough of a problem for me to send it back to David(4sevens). I just loosen the head now.

Interesting. My D10 R2, which I ordered from 4sevens.ca on May 12, has the same type of serial. Mine is C0224US 000205. I wonder which one is the actual serial number... I find it hard to believe that they only produced 45 lights between May and now. Even the difference between the first segments is rather low -- 396 units? Hmm.

I picked one up from them a couple months back and it did the same thing. Battery would only last about 4-5 days. I emailed Four-Sevens and they told me it was a defective part and sent it back to them. Still waiting for a replacement.

Re: New D10

I heard back from 7777's. Apparently the o-rings included in the spares kit may not be exactly the same as what is installed on the light from the factory. Still it seems a little strange the that they would include a head ring that is half the thickness of the original.

As for the warranty cards, unfortunately the cardboard type is becoming standard.

Re: New D10

i just got a D10 R2 from 7777 last week and no problems thus far. i noticed that it doesn't squeal like my EX10 Q5 does which is a change for the better. i hope i don't have the battery drain problem; that negates the purpose of leds (longer battery life).

Nitecore SmartPD lights have a tiny battery drain while off unless locked out because of the way the circuit is designed, but it's supposed to be on the order of microamps and should take closer to a year to deplete a battery.

Something is wrong with the electronics if standby runs a battery down within a week.
