Hi everyone,

This morning I got my LEDs off fred in the mail, so a bit nervous I got everything set up, ready to go, keeping in mind this is the most I've ever spent on a torch.

Broke the old emitter getting it out, not a good start but pushed on.

Cleaned up all the goo and proceeded to put new thermal paste and solder new SSC P4 U3, this is the smallest thing I have ever solder and my hands were shaking like mad, but I got a good result. It only took me half an hour.

I did a comparison beamshot alongside my R2 Extreme, I was hoping to get brighter than this at 220 lumens and I dont think Im that far off maybe 180 lumens.

Original emitter, ugly blue and pretyy dim compared to the Extreme

U3 emitter, still not as bright but a much nicer tint, unfortunaly I still prefer the tint of the Extrem R2.

No thermal step down, I have had it on max for 15 mins and it did get hot but that shows the heatsink is doing its job.

Let me know what you guys think, should I do my next Novatac with the K2 I have here?

Looks very good - that's a dramatic improvement.

I'll move your thread to H&M - there are other threads on Novatac mods there, such as this one.

The K2 has a much better tint than any SSC I've ever come across. The TVOD is the best tint I've come across in a cool white LED. The UWOE isn't far off either.

Not to mention it has better tint uniformity (no stupid yellow ring around the cooler hotspot).

Yeah I heard that too but thought I will try the easier one first, straight swap, no cutting and stuff.

I have a UWOE here and waiting on my other Novatac in the mail.

Once I get it modded Ill take beamshots of all three and make another comparison, Ill maybe try and do outdoor beamshots for colour rendition purposes, the U3 is way better than the original, its brighter than my Zebralight SC30, which apparently has 193 OTF lumens? All my lights run on AW 16340 cells

Update.

OK I couldnt wait for my other NT to get here, no doubt it will arrive tommorrow now so I went ahead and replaced the already replaced Seuol with the K2 UWOE.

W_O_W.

If anyone has a NT this needs to be done. No question asked just do it.

I took a similair beamshot about the same distance away from the wall as last time and still compared to my Extreme.

Novatac K2 left, Extreme R2 right.

Camera added those weird rings around the hotspot, not visible by eye.

Now looking at these on the computer looks a bit different than in real life, I couldnt look at the hotspot of the NT for more than a few seconds before getting sore eyes, it has a much much better tint than my Extreme, although it was a fav before. The colour rendition of this emitter is awesome. The hotspot is also about 15% bigger than the Extreme.

Im going to say roughly 240 emitter lumens if the Extreme claims 220. (both running on fresh li-ion)

This is way worth, this is sure get a few holys**t a firework jst went off right next to me, oh, its your torch, at next years guy fawks night.

Agreed,
Ive done a couple NT K2 swaps and they are a perfect match and noticeably brighter.

before I did the mod mod it was barely noticable but after I put the K2 in it flickered a few times until I did a soft reset and now its fixed
