I was using my P61 bulb in my Surefire G2 the other night and it exploded!

I was demonstrating the light to someone and they were saying "Boy that is a really bright small flashlight" and then it went pop. The next comment was "Now its not so bright"

Anyone else have one of these pop?

Both NiCd and Li batteries give off a gas when they are being discharged. SF lights are vented for this reason. If your light burst, it was defective. Return it. Walt

Thanks Guys, I will contact Surefire and see what they say. It didn't damage the lense but the little bits of the bulb got in the grooves and were difficult to clean up.

I know. Been there, done that...

Just as well it was an Lamp Module with Reflector cos otherwise the Reflector Bezel would be wasted. (Been there, done that)

I had a P61 pop after it was in a 6R with a freshly charged brand new NiCad module.

It usually ran about 12 minutes but the cheap recharge was worth it. I guess the freshly charged battery delivered too much amperage.

The P61 in the G2 sounds like a good idea for a really bright cheaper light (compared to a m2 anyway. Could the bulb have popped because the nitrolon doesn't carry the heat away as well as metal heads?

I had a P61 go pop, but if I told all the things it had been through in the M2, you'd forgive it.

That P61 is the only P60/P61 I've ever broken.

Has it damaged your Lens? If so, I would call SureFire. If the Lamp exploded and you think it shouldn't have, I would talk to them about that too.

Because I was trying to damage my P61 as part of the new Bezel field-testing, my situation was different.

Murphy strikes when showing off.

That is an interesting speculation about the nitrolon not carrying the heat away as well.

I have run this flashlight for a while now and I know it does get hot. The night it popped I was running it for an extended period of time but I have done that before.

It is a great little light, one of my favorites. The nitrolon makes it very light and has a nice feel to it.

The 8NX gets very hot.

I like the Nitrolon.

If Paul Kim releases a LockOut TailCap for the G2, I'll be really happy. If he releases a waterproof version, I'd like to shake his hand! (I do realise that would mean I would have to visit SureFire...)

Nitrolon S.A.S. Bezel... Hmmmmm...
