I would like to buy a Niteforce MT1A for the wife but after my latest purchase (EagleTac D25A2) she wants something really inexpensive first. I thought the Niteforce was pretty nice for the price. I don't know anything about these lights but are the Ultrafire 501B lights worth anything? Would this work for something really inexpensive for her to get her used to the joy of a tactical light? She really likes my EagleTac but she doesn't like the price tag. I have the batteries ready to go. Can anyone offer an informed opinion??

The 501B is an 18650 light, so I would look at the Sky Ray SR-5. It is also a P60 host and comes with an XM-L drop-in.
Ebay item number 310685799148

ShiningBeam.com has a good selection of budget quality lights as well.

What is your budget and preferred battery type?

Remember to wrap the drop-in with foil to help in heat transfer if you go with the P60 format!

Is it for an AA light?

I would go with the right choice 1st time on what you determine, 1st impressions............last

That way you wont or the wife wont be disappointed or let down at the time of need:)

Just my opinion:)

Thanks for the replys. The battery format can be anything. I am using AA (14500), CR123 (I already have a few flashlights that use these), and the 18165 which is the battery the Ultrafire uses. I personally prefer the AA format for my EDC because I use the light at work and AA batteries are everywhere. I love my EagleTac. I think I will take the advice from Ven. The Niteforce MT21A or MT1A will work well for her and will probably not let her down and the price is right ($30.00). Thanks for the info guys!

Nip into Walmart or Costco, some nice lights in there to suit your needs, you can always take it back as well.

Thanks, Barry, for the heads up on the Sky Ray SR-4 and Shining Beam products. I looked at the SB P-Rocket and it looks like a solid build. Though she wanted to not go over $20, I think I have my wife agreeing with me now to kick in 10 bucks (especially since I agreed to kick it in) and buy a better light. Thanks for the welcome. I am enjoying learning about all of the latest and best light goodies.

Olight i3s is a good little light that won't take up much bag room and is surprisingly bright. It's also pretty cheap.

Solarforce also has a tonne of stuff, plus their newer Z1 and Z2 lights which are small and (like the Olight I3S) come in various colours. I ordered one for a friend, so I can tell you more after I've checked it. One style is a single CR123, the other a single AA. Each is $16 (USD, I think) plus tiny shipping. That's cheaper than the Olight.

Orrrrrr, get a P60 host that uses a single CR123-sized battery from Solarforce and add a rechargeable Li-Ion and whatever dropin. Probably just under $30 depending on which, and it's 10 cm or so long.

The Fenix e12 is worth a look. Very capable light using a single AA.
I also have a Nitecore MT21A, 2XAA light in my EDC pack. 260 lumen hig has a nice transtition from spill to central beam.
Also less than $30!

Wow, guys, thanks so much! So many choices! That's the great part of asking a question like like this one, you get some great ideas. I will sit down with her and go through all of these and see what she says. She likes my EagleTac though she admits she would never use all the light mode options. She has a Fenix E01 but wants some more power. Well, I will roll up my sleeves and start checking these options out.

How do you like your MT21A? This is a light that I would like to own myself. It is the 2XAA format that I personally like and it is supposed to be a thrower.
