I have the 2008 Myo XP (the grey one with green buttons) and was wondering about upgrading the emitter.
Could I possibly put the same emitter that the new RXP has in it, and what would that be?
Thanks

Not sure what emitter the RXP uses (most likely SSC P4 U2), but my guess is that in this case the heatsinking and circuit are the main considerations.

IIRC, the older blue Myo XP used a Lux-III, the grey Myo XP some sort of SSC P4, and the white Myo RXP is a later variety SSC P4. Look HERE to see the RXP disassembled. There are also pictures somewhere around the forum of the blue Myo XP's, and maybe even the grey Myo XP's, guts and according to Szemhazai, verified by the pictures, the case, venting, and heat-sink on the later models are the same (maybe even on all 3).

As the circuit will remain the same, all benefits will have to be derived solely from installing a newer, brighter LED.

The mod looks easy enough, de-solder two wires, re-solder two wires, reuse the thermal grease and you're done. An SSC P4 U2S(V-or-W)0(H-or-I) star should work, though my personal preference of alphabet soup would be the US2W0H … W=whiter vs. V=pinker & H=less voltage required.

However, depending on what's currently in your Myo XP now, you might not see much improvement. If you've got an older S(?) or T bin P4 then I'd go for it, but if you've got one of the older U bin P4s that was rated @ 91-100lm, then the U2 P4 @ 100-118lm might not be worth the time and effort. Even then realize that having the same or better emitter/star as the RXP will not make your headlamp as bright as the RXP's circuitry supplies more power to the LED, according to Szemhazai's readings referenced earlier.

Good Luck!

In headlamps you cannot expect U2 bin - this bin is almost unavalible in wholesale quantieties.

If you have T-bin inside there will be improvment, but change from U1 to U2 wont give you too much.
bin T2 = 85 lum @ 350mA
bin U1 = 95 lum @ 350mA
bin U2 = 105 lum @ 350mA

I am not sure if yours is like this one, just in case;

I do have this model, I realy like it, I change the Led and the output is a littler better, I was thinking a couples days ago if I can find a driver what can replace the original, that because just with the booster button you have the max of MA to the Led...
