After searching forever I have been unable to find the actual size on the N-Cell battery....you know like 18650 or 10440. I am planning on buying a few rechargeable cells for a newly aquired N-Cell light and am looking for the dimensions....can anyone help me out with this?

For some reason the old AW thread with all the batteries is not showing up on a search for me. Also I know I have read before there are N-Cell rechargeable batteries available however I am curious if there are rechargeable N-Cells that have the same chemistry as the Hybrids or Eneloop type and hold a charge longer.

Thanks again....

I just found the battery thread I was looking for and still cant figure this out....The 10280 looks close in length however states it is a shortened AAA cell.

Also found a few old links to some older TNC stuff however the links are no longer good. I remember they sold a few charging adapters as well as the batteries and I also cant find much on that either???

Ok crazy enough I just found what I needed after a long search....10mm x 28mm and 500 mA is the best I found so far. Ok so now that I have most of what I needed can anyone say if there is something else out there.....mainly the Hybrid chemistry rechargeables like the eneloops yet in the N-Cell size?

N cells are a little bit thicker than AAA's, 12mm dia and 30mm long. Their capacity is lower. They are in general not worth messing with except for specialty purposes. You can find specs at energizer.com by clicking "technical info": http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/E90.pdf

Paulr thanks for the link and I agree the N-Cell is not ideal for lighting purposes. I only now have one light (Shasta 3-LED) using these cells however I bought it on an impulse as it was a great price.

I will probably just buy a few alkalines to get by for now as I probably will not use this light as an EDC. So is the 10280 the closest to a true N-Cell size in rechargeables? If I am figuring correct I should be looking for maybe a 12300 if there is such a thing?

Battery Station is out of stock

(and according to his site, they are DIA 11.5 mm X HT 28.5 mm)

However, he does have "2/3 AAA" batteries, 10.5mm dia by 29mm length, which is near enough to a bullseye for mine. And a generous 400mAh capacity, too.

Could use a 10440, and use the extra space for a spacer with a resistor to bump the voltage back down a tad.

The 10280's may be the closest in size to an N cell. But don't forget, AW's 10280 is a 3.7 volt Li-Ion and the N cell is a 1.5 volt Alkaline. The actual size of an N cell is 30.2 x 12.0mm.

Like lctorana said, Battery Station's only listing for N sized cells is out of stock. The other one he mentioned is the 2nd one on the same list and has double the capacity at 400 mAh. You can find here it in Battery Station's nicads listing. Its size is listed as 10.5 x 29mm so it will fit. It has spot welded tabs on it though. Those pesky tabs wrap around a small needle-nose like you were opening a can of sardines. It helps to have a Dremel for the rough edges left behind.

The only other listing for 2/3rds AAA NiMH I had in my battery bookmarks was a whopping bunch of 16 from Powerizer. At least they don't have tabs on them. Many cordless phone packs use 2/3rds AAA cells. BatteryBob has free shipping on orders under $100. But then you're back to the welded tabs thing.

I spoke with the tech. at our police radio shop and he hooked me up with a local shop and I ordered a few. I am said to receive these in a few days and I hope they are what I need. The order was made by phone however the shop seemed to know what I was looking for....we shall see and they are standard voltage of 1.2

Only question I have is can I charge these smaller capacity cells in a standard nimh charger? I have magnets to make an adapter and two chargers with one being an Energizer and the other being the standard charger that came with my Rayovac Hybrids...
