Hi all, first post.

I'm looking for a light that can I can use for carry everyday around town, and will also double as my primary light when I'm backpacking. I'm not a gram weenie, but I am an ultralight backpacker so it needs to be light, I would say under 70 grams or so would be preferable. Also, size would need to be comfortable to carry all day in my pocket, not using a clip. I want a light that runs on a single cr123a, or a AA if you think it's a good light (I've been thinking about the c10a) and I would prefer a more floody beam. A forward clicky with momentary on would be better than twisting the head. Also, does an electronic tail switch like that of the Sunwayman c10a drain the batteries? I can't remember where but I heard that somewhere. Most importantly, I'd like to keep the price as close to $40-50 as possible.
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

While slightly over your budget, the Quark Tactical QTLC (or QTL if you want a clip) meets all those needs.

Have a look here: http://www.foursevens.com/products/flashlights/Tactical

I can't vouch for the pricing, but the Sunwayman v11r, c10r, c10a all meet your specs as well, as does the Jetbeam PA10 (although it's AA)

I would suggest the Fenix PD22 - S2. Very light, very small, as powerful as a 2AA LED light, has a very simple mode changer, and can be found on sale - 10 percent off at Fenix Outfitters or 8% off at Battery Junction using coupon codes today only. Discount brings price to $51 with free shipping. I just purchased mine.

Do you camp with any other portable electronics? If so, I'd highly recommend trying to use common batts across your devices. I'm in ultra light camping and have become very fond of long runtime, low lumen, pocketable lights, and especially moonlight mode lights which can give you 200+ hrs per AA with enough light to comfortably read by. As recommended above, Quarks are my favorite, followed by the EagleTac D25 clickies (<$50) and then the Zebralight H series.

Used to be a headlamp guy, but am much happier with efficient traditional flashlights that I rig up for hands free camping (headlamp & lantern) with just stuff I EDC in my pockets. Guess it's just that I hate packing, carrying, keeping track of more gear.... including batteries. Don't forget a back-up light.

The Zebralight SC series seem like they would match your needs well (forward clicky, flood lense option, single 123 or AA). No momentary, but their UI is the best in my opinion and accessing the perfect level of light becomes second nature.
Any electronic switch will have some parasitic drain, but given the regular use of an EDC light that becomes negligible.
They are a little over your target range at 64$... but if a light can withstand this you might find it worth while.

Take a look at the nitecore EA1, i love mine, and you will be hard pressed to find a light with a better range of modes in it's price range- around $50
