Hi,

I'm currently EDCing a Princeton Tec Blast by recommendation of this forum and I like it very much, it's an amazing little light for its size, and gives some 14 lumens. However, I would like to complement it with another flashlight, and I need some help.

I'm looking for a flashlight to carry on my bag with the following characteristics:
- Around 40 or 50 lumens incan, with a narrow "throwy" beam. 100 lumens or more is too much.
- Absolutely no white or blue leds. Other LEDs (red, yellow, etc.) are ok, but are not required.
- Size is not important, but the weight should be less than ~ 200 g ( < ~ 7 oz) with batteries
- AA, AAA, C or D batteries strongly preferred
- Runtime is not important ( > 20 minutes I guess)

The Surefire Aviator A2 sounds about perfect, but has some major drawbacks for me, it's way too expensive here (EUR€ 246, approx USD$317) and uses expensive 123A batteries (and I don't want to mess with rechargeable lithiums).

So, I'm looking for a throwy incan that uses standard batteries and isn't too expensive (I don't know maybe, < USD$50, preferably less that $30).

Try a princeton tec40 with a mag 4d xenon bulb. It uses 4aa and is in your budget .

I recommend buying the Surefire A2, as you will NOT be dissapointed. If I had to have only 1 flashlight, it would be a hard decision between that and my $500 Lunasol27. I recommend looking over at the marketplace, as they can be had for around $100US.

Don't be put off by CR123A's, they are the way to go for sheer power. the trick is to buy in bulk online, there's always deals on ebay, and they can be dirt cheap.

Sorry, you are just not going to get that kind of power out of a non lithium light in a small package. You could try some form of Maglite mod... six NiMHs in a custom solution might offer what you are looking for.

A D size alkaline weighs 139 grams

I don't think any C or D flashlights are going to meet the weight requirement.

I like this idea, thanks! I had already though of the Princeton Tec40 due to its size and weight, but wanted some more lumens. A 4D bulb should be more than enough.

After thinking about this, I realized that what I'm looking for is a 4AA incan. I think this will do it. The other options I found, the Pelican Stealthlite 2400 and the Underwater Kinetics 4AA are harder to buy (I'm in Europe). The Streamlight propoly 4AA incan is yet another option.
