Hi everyone,

I'm looking for someone who can cut, bore out and rethread
an Arc AA to accept a cr2 cell. I need a perfect job /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can anyone help?

Dang! I could almost help, I have over 20 years experience as a machinist, but I'm not perfect. Call up some machine shops and ask them if they do perfect work. Be prepared to pay a few billion dollars for that tolerance.

Aw, give the guy a break. He has a part that can't be replaced and simply wants
it modified by someone who can give fairly good assurance that the part won't be
ruined.

I don't think I would attempt it, but that's because I understand that I make mistakes. We have a whole thread for silly beginners' mistakes. A professional would be less likely to make the silly mistakes.

Okay... maybe not perfect then. Anyone want to give this a go?
I have 4 bodies and would like to give it a try.

4sevens,

I've done 4-5 but with custom heads. The body has to be bored to .605"-.610" diameter to fit the CR2. At that point, the stock Arc head just falls-in. The bore is larger than the stock threads.

I just checked, and you could cut down an old-style CMG Infinity (pre-Gerber), as the CR2 slips right inside the threading... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif No need for a custom head for that... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Would it be possible to have a cutting tool shaped like an "L"
that will reaching into the body and bore on the part past the
threads? Or will the threads themselves not clear the cr2 cell?

The threads are too small for the CR2 to fit through. Once they are bored out the head no longer has threads to screw into. One option would be to cut off the other end and build a tail cap for it; assuming the CR2 terminal will reach the head.

A boring bar with an offset head is common. I used one last week to bore an AA maglight to allow a CR2 to fit.

I will add that Gadget Lover did a great job on my daughter's light as well with that boring work described above. The beginning of a nice 2 x AA to 2 x CR2 mod. (well, at least the machining was done well) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
