I received a video game (The lord of the rings) for Christmas. I can't get it to run on my Laptop it works fine on my desktop. The error says, "An error occurred while trying to initialize the display. Please check that your video drivers are installed properly and then go to the Engine Options dialog to select a valid display mode." when I go to select a display mode there are none it is blank were the desktop has different resolutions to chose from. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok when I go to the configuration under display drivers it says"i81xdnt.dll(intel(R)82815Graphics Controller)" Then below that is the Display mode tab and it is blank.

But with my desktop under the same tab I can chose from all the standard resalutions (like 1024x768) and so on.

A few more questions:

1. Which OS are you running?
2. This settings is where? I'm assuming in the Windows System Properties? Or are you talking about the game settings?

It is windows 2000 on both computers, and under the game setup there is a tab which reads "fellowship Engine Setup" when I hit that it brings up a Graphics driver.

I had to install directX8 on both computer. Maybe the driver on the laptop will not work with this?

Just for the heck of it:

1. Who made your laptop? Go to their website and see the latest updates.

2. Reinstall DirectX8.

Right...but sometimes they don't make the switch correctly for whatever reason, so then you get wierd errors that keep you from playing LOTR--catch my drift?
