Hey guys. I would like some help identifying the 2D flashlight that my dad had when I was a boy back in the '60's and '70's. I think it was an Eveready/Union Carbide light, silver metal body, smooth I think, not ribbed, with a red plastic lens cap. It had a magnet on the switch, I think, that consisted of two silver metal bars that ran the length of the switch. I have not seen a photo of this flashlight on the forum--yet. My dad worked for Montgomery Ward, so maybe it was a special MW version of a standard model. I don't remember if it had a tail cap, or just loaded from the front. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Was it this one?

If so, that is the Eveready Commander. It came in 2D cells with or without the magnet. There was also the Commander Jr. (2C) and Little Commander (1AA). I have the last two and they look like this:

There was also this one, the Magnet Light Flashlight.

That's it! The Eveready Commander, the first photo that you posted! Thank you! I've seen lots of photos of ones without the magnet, but none with the magnet. Wow. You guys are GOOD!

I wish I could find that old light, but I have a feeling that it has disappeared in the mists of time...

Well, now that I know what it is, I know what to look for on ebay, etc.

Thanks again!

You're very welcome!

Funny, I had one of those 'Magnet Light' versions (with the slightly squared body) in that last photo that was part of a tool kit TI issued / gave me in '73. It's probably still in a box here somewhere, but I haven't seen it in years. That was a flashback just seein' the photo!;-)

If you can't find one on eB you're welcome to this one.. It has been stuck on my fridge door since you were a kid. Bacon grease has preserved the chrome finish;-)

I remember that double-bar magnet arrangement! I remember that more clearly than the light itself -- maybe that switch was used on a few different body styles.
I wonder whether those two bars are the arms of a flat, shallow horseshoe magnet? I think they moved together, not independently, which would suggest they are part of one piece of metal.

I remember those 2D Eveready Commanders my Parents had one that lived on the fridge, it was primarily used to navigate from a dark Carpark into workplace (night shift), I recall a possible white coating instead of those pictured 👍

The chrome style torches live on in LED format in India under the model designation "Jeevansathi"

You sure can. I had a few of the post cards picked up years ago on a surfing trip to Mazatlan.

PM your addy..

These gals tushy's are covered with body paint, so that makes it okay, right🤔

In view of that, I can't imagine why all those Mexican men wanted to leave Mexico! 🤔:anyone:🤔

Most younger senoritas are hookers. And the few who aren't, after a half doz or more kids become frumpy amigas. So these guys run to America work (or sell drugs)and send USD back to their homeland. Doing nothing to support US economy.
Here in Lalaland CA illegals get free green cards, healthcare, and don't have to show voter ID.
You get the message 😑
