Newly Enlightened
First off you all are truly a wonderful group. I have come here in the past and the help and knowledge I have received from all of you is always impressive. It started when I bought a Felix e-11 from info I got from this site. I ended up buying about a half dozen of them. I put one in each vehicle, one in my travel bag, one next to the nightstand, one to the girlfriend and one I carried every day. I had both generations of this excellent light. His probably is the best example of what I consider the perfect user interface. Simple system with a usable low mode for most tasks and available high for distance and comes on in whichever mode it was set to previously. After a few years I learn from all of you about the stream light protac 1L-1aa. Finally a light that can take powerful cr123 batteries but also uses AA's if necessary. I have two of the weaponlight versions for a couple of the AR's as well as I carried one for the last two years and again gave one to the girlfriend. Loved the light. I thought the ten tap interface gave me a good interface with a low/high setup. My only complaint is that the light was a tad big for edc in my opinion as it was a lot larger than the e-11. A couple days ago I am traveling as a passenger on a plane and when I fell asleep I think the light fell out of my pocket as it is now gone forever.
I need a new edc light. I have noticed that the technology on these lights changes fast and have learned a lot doing some research lately on the rechargeable lights being made today. I use the light for basic edc needs almost daily. I also use the light at work where I need to do a walk around on an airplane once or twice a day sometimes at night to inspect airplane parts and exterior. The furthest distance I need to see is the tail of the plane which is about 40 feet off the ground. Here is what I prefer.
-I prefer a simple user interface and require that the light come on in low/med mode which should be between 50 and 150 lumens(75 or more would be nice. Runtime is the important part here) with a runtime of at least 5 hours(preferably 6+) then a high mode of at least 200 lumens(runtime on high not important since it would rarely be used.)other modes are not necessary and prefer to not have too many options since I like simplicity when switching modes. In an ideal world the modes would. Be switched by a separate button than the on off such as a rotation of some kind but if it is the tail cap switch I can work with that.
-Must be tail cap with momentary on. No exceptions.
-Here is where I am willing to branch out into new territory. I would like to try a USB chargeable light. My "office" has an iPad charger that I could use to charge the light via the USB port so this would be available to me all the time as long as I kept the USB/micro USB cable in my bag. The USB lights are new to me but this looks like a cool option. I am willing to buy another cr123/aa light if I find one that suits all my needs but it would need to be an improvement over what I had before i.e. Super simple and smaller than the protac. I also would consider an aa only light if it met my requirements but a cr123 only light is not an option.
-can not be any larger than the protac I had. Preferably smaller would be perfect
-bulletproof reliability and durability just like my previous lights.
-I don't want to say price isn't a concern but it is the lowest concern. Would like to stay under $100 since I tend to buy several when I like a light.
So this kind of ran long but I get so much great info from all of you every time I am on this forum. Thanks again so much to all of you!!
