I have an EOS A3 that I took a Dremel to the keychain attachment on, because I wanted it to tailstand. I didn't know about the Maratac at the time of purchase. Anyway, it came out great and tailstands perfectly. However, every time I set it down when it is in high mode, it kicks down to the first mode (medium). It won't kick out of medium or low modes, but on high it does it every time with different brands of batteries. Can anyone offer any help or suggestions on how to fix it?

OK, I took a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to the contact points, and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Good to know you solved the problem. Common issue that many fix by adding springs, stretching springs, adding buffer material, etc. Having clean contacts is always nice though, and since yours was only popping on the high level I think you did the right thing, and may have got a few extra lumens while you were at it.

I have an A3 (non upgraded one) that I'll be triming the same way. It makes for the shortest AAA light. I just which the output was actually a bit lower as I don't need it to blast full power, or I wish they had another single more one that was 1/2 the output and greater runtime.

Nice lights, great price!

Well, it seems that cleaning the contacts only worked for a bit. It is back to it's old ways. Should I try to pull the spring with some tweazers? Any other suggestion?

This is a weird one.

You took the head off when using the dremel of course?

I would look at the contact the spring is making inside the battery tube.
Pull it, clean the bottom (did it get hot while grinding the pin off?) and try again.

I have tried taking the spring out, cleaning and replacing, and it didn't help. I did just clean the contact on the head again and it is working properly for the moment, just like when I did it yesterday. We'll see how long it lasts.
