I'm wanting a new charger to replace my old Rayovac PS4 one hour charger. I just want a simple SMART charger that will do a good job charging my ROV Hybrid batteries. A longer charge time is not an issue, if it's helps to protect the batteries and give them a longer life.

I have a LaCrosse BC-900 and I can recommend it. Pop the cells in and it charges at 200mA. You can then switch to 500, 700, 1000 or 2000mA if you want.

If you don't discharge your hybrids all the way the PS4 charger will charge them fine... it shuts off after about 1800mah worth of charging but seems to trickle charge them up full after that I think
I have a BC900 and find myself using the rayovac instead most of the time. On my 2500 energizers when it is done I take it out and put it back in and it continues charging it the rest of the way up.

OK, I think I got it. The PS4 will put 1800mah of power into my AA 2100 mah batteries before it shuts off and goes into a trickle mode that will slowly top off the batteries. Or, I can pull the batteries and reinsert them into the charger to do it more quickly. Also, if the batteries are not completely empty and only need less than 1800mah, the PS4 fills them to capacity before shutting off.

I was worried that my PS4 with only putting 1600-1800 mahs into my batteries before shutting off.

BTW, how much better is the BC900 at keeping batteries in top condition? I've read alot about them, but I'm not sure if it is worth the extra cost, since I already have the PS4 charger that's seems to work fine and it's very simple to use. Is its fast charge rate all that bad for my batteries?

I have a bunch of energizer 2300s and a bunch of nimh generic 1600mah cells that I have been charging with it for years with no problems. The charger for cells needing more than about 1400-1600 is about an hour I think....for 2500s it would be two cycles or about 1 hour 40 mins or so for a full charge so it is mild compared to most. I have an energizer 15 min charger and you could melt cheese on the batteries instantly compared to only butter on the rayovac. I have been looking for a simple charger that has a 3amp and 1.5A charge rate on it. Maybe I will have to find a circuit and rewire a charger to do that because I like about an hour charging rate or two hours when not in a hurry.

Thanks. I feel a little more comfortable using my PS4 now. I picked up about 32 ROV Hybrid batteries awhile back using the $5 off coupons per pack of 4. So I'm only into each battery about a buck.

I read somewhere that Sanyo had a simple smart charger that was only sold in a package deal with some enloops and something else that was pretty good. All I remember reading is that all the package deal Sanyo chargers were not the same and the good one's number ended in "03", I think.
