This is my first post on this forum, but I've been lurking for about a week now.

Basically,I'm interested in purchasing a Photon III LED light, but dont know what color to get. The light will be for general use and I had planned on getting the white version. However, I've read that red light is better for night vision. I really dont know what this means so I was hoping people could give me some recommendations on a color to get.

Also, the cheapest I found for the Photon III was $10.95 at Botach, but I've been told to stay away from them. So, where is a good place to get one cheap?

Personally I would go with white, it's the best color for general everyday use.

Red is said to be good for night use as it doesn't damage your night vision as much as other colors, but will make EVERYTHIMG look red, this can be a bad thing for certain uses (map reading for instance - red lines/roads wont be properly visable)

As for where to buy, well i'm in the UK so cant really advise on that one...

Timmy8151. My next Photon order is going to vicomptel. I can't vouch for them yet. Some people had some problems with them but I think they were cleared up.
Are you in the US?

sunspot,

yeah im in the US. I'm in California if that helps.

What do people think of the photon copies that are sold really cheap on ebay?

The clones are Photon II clones, NOT Photon III. You should not have to pay more than $3.00 for a Photon II clone. They are NOT as good as real thing but real thing will cost you at least thrice!

I just checked out Vicomptel prices. $11.25 for P-III. $12.25 for P-III covert and crystal model. I belive shipping is less than $3.00 so right there it beats Botach's $7.00 shipping. Look in the dealers corner forum for the full thread on Vicomptel.

Strongly recommend the Amber P-III from Vicomptel-because the latest updated chip is not avail. yet for the white LED model. The amber (sold as "yellow") also has the larger 2032 battery for looong run time. Also, the amber seems to give great acuity.

-FYI, Vicomptel is located in El Monte, Ca, and gave me great service..

I'm not to keen on clones. However, one of our members had a group buy on a large lot of clones and most, if not all, of the buyers were happy with them.
I have bought Photons on ebay without problems.
