I'd like to take you up on this if you could do a D20 instead. Would that be okay?

Got the SSC working in the D20. The beam pattern is similar to that of a D10. I'll see if I can't get some beamshots tonight before I send the light out.

Here's a couple of beamshots comparing a Q3-5A modded D10 to an SSC High-CRI P4 modded D20.

The brightness seems to be similar, probably because the SSC focuses slightly tighter (about 1 inch narrower at 1foot than the D10)

The D20's beam is quite a bit smoother, with a nice transition from hot spot to spill. The Cree rings visible on the D10 vanish with the substitution of the SSC emitter.

Camera set to daylight white balance. Distance of about 1 1/2 to 2 feet from a chest freezer. The D10 is running on an AW 14500, the D20 is running on L91 Energizer Lithiums.

Nitecore D10 with a McR-18 reflector:

Reflector is a perfect fit, and makes for an interesting beam pattern. 😀

Is that with a cree?

You could use a high CRI seoul and the McR18 for a super mooth beam...

I'll do that next once I get another D10...

😀

Yup, that's with a Cree 😀

I might do a SSC mod on it, but I'm really liking this mod. The hotspot is actually less defined in person, and the beam is a perfect flood, except it's limited to a smaller beam profile.

Since I'll be swapping the Luxeon for a T1SS0 SSC in my McLuxIII-PD, I might just keep this as is, for it's unique(to me) beam profile.

I tend to stay away from modding Surefires after an incident involving a KX1 head...

If you can get the emitter out without breaking anything, I'd be happy to put a new emitter in there for you, for about $20 shipped CONUS.

Yes, I modded a KX2 head. I got lucky on a lightly potted top but it was torture getting that emitter out!

:sick2:

Not fun modding surefires...
