Was it difficult to change the led in the ITP?

i am thinking about destroying my itp c8/c7 and put a dereelight 5a 14mm pill into it if anyway feasible.

so is it hard to do? any hints you care to share? picture guide would be nice so i might end up with working sample instead of junk. :candle::duh2:

The only hard part with the iTP was getting the head open. If you can get the head open, I'll be happy to finish the mod for you. You'll need lots of heat and patience. Once the head is open the mod is pretty easy and self-explanatory. I don't know if a Dereelight pill will work though...

i had a small looksie at the head of the itp and it does seem to be tough to remove. i think i better forget it.
*patience is not my virtue.. Big F Hammer is*

hmm.. wonder if the akoray k106 is any easier. its my other choice currently as i just got it.

or the jetbeam pro 1. that should be coming over next week, maybe. -akoray would sting less if stuff fails but i somehow dont like its feel as much as the itp and d10.

(the r2 d10 is sooooo much warmer to these two so it will get to stay as is.)

-you beeing in usa and me in europe, the shipping costs back and forth add up too much in price, so it is not a viable solution. i am tempted tho 🙂

I have just bought an old school kl3 and want to change the emitter to a higher output warm tint of some description. I notice that kl's are not on your list but would you consider doing this?

I will happily mod a KL head if you can get the old emitter out.

It is easier for me to make a whole new head than swap an emitter on a KL head.

I'm now the owner of a Q3-5A D20, awesome work.
This is my first neutral tinted light, it's so much pleasing to the eyes, I can actually read a book without the eye strain that comes with cool white, illuminate large outdoor-natural areas without the frozen/ghostly landscape appearence.

I've also enjoyed it in candle mode in the house without electricity I've spent a few nights in.
i was looking forward to see how this tint performed, and the result is :twothumbs

I placed an order for a EZ123 (no warm available), if I think it's a light I will want to use, I will be thinking of sending it to you.

I guess it's been a while since I've seen this thread. I've always wanted to get a UV light, and $50 to mod a light sounds reasonable. What is a good candidate host for the UV?

I'd also be interested in seeing a(nother) High CRI SSC light, what lights have you had good luck on with that?

And... how do you like the XP-E's? I think the specs say they will run at 800mA, so do they work alright in a light that is spec'd at 180 lumens? I'm aware of the beam differences, the XP-E's end up with more flood and a smoother beam than the XR-E's. I don't know how great they are with different reflectors, though.

I've been out of town, so your package was waiting for me over the weekend. Fast work, but showing fine attention to detail. Much obliged.

You're right; the D10 does seem to be about as bright as stock, and the beam is a very nice flood.

Cheers.

The Nitecore PD-series is pretty mod-friendly for those mods. A McGizmo makes for a great High-CRI light. The XP-E's would be nicer if I could find a larger board for them. The 8mm ones don't really work out too well.

I just got back from a trip to Canada myself, and I'm sure I'll have the same experience when I get home. It's a nice feeling.

I'm glad you're enjoying it too 😀

Cutter has XP-E on 10mm boards, is that a good size for you - I was going to see what they would fit before I saw this post. I will order one or two (all Q3 5C) if they can be easily made to replace SSC and Luxeon LEDs.

I'd recommend an SSC before an XP-E for SSC/Luxeon replacement. The T1 bin I have now is brighter than the previous S2 bin, and the quality of the light is much better.

The XP-E's have issues with a lot of reflectors because of the wires. You would need about a 12-15mm board for a light that started with an XR-E. The 8mm boards, while they fit nice for the SSC replacements, still leave the wires in the way. The 10mm boards would probably be too big for many SSC/Luxeon lights.

What emitter fits in a GDP EX10? I put a warm GDP emitter in mine and I've been grabbing the Cree one you modded practically every time. 😱

You should be able to put either an SSC or a Cree in there. I'm pretty sure that the holder is removable. I think it would be nice to see what kind of beam you get from the GDP reflector with an SSC. The SS bins are just a hair "whiter" than a 5A.

I sure am. Which would you like, an SSC (floodier beam, but better CRI and tint) or Cree (more throw, but lower CRI and can have a slightly pink tint)?
