I was just at Fred Meyers looking in the Flashlight Section and noticed that Energizer has a New LED 2 Mode Flashlight. I was looking for a general purpose light for my mom for home use. A flashlight that will have long runtimes (can sit in a drawer for a long time without use, then work when she needs it) and be bright for her 80 year old eyes.

Seems like normal flashlights are getting better based on this light, and the 2AA MiniMag multi-mode out now.

This Energizer multi-mode model had:
Two modes. High 3 watt, and Low 1 watt
A side clickie (she has arthitus, and twisties "are complicated")
Made of Aluminum
Whether Proof
LED (Unsure of the type or brightness)
Come with 2 AA Energizer Lithiums, Not the Ultimate Lithiums
As far as brightness goes I notice Energizers "Tactical" 1 watt LED Flashlight says 45 Lumens and "12x Brighter". 12 times 3.75 equals 45.

The New LED 2 Mode Flashlight says "21x brighter". So 21 time 3.75 = 79 lumens. I realize this is just a guess and I make some leaping assumption, but I thought this might be interesting.

Has anyone seen this light and might guess the type of LED, Lumen rating or run times in each mode? They look kinda like a maglite with a slightly bigger reflector.

The images aren't showing up, but I can see you are trying to hotlink the images from the Energizer site.

As the rule #3 of the forum state...no hotlinking.

Anyway, I've noticed this light as well in one of the stores here. I'm somewhat interested but not at that price.
1 watt lights are usually around 45 lumens, with 3 watt lights in the 80 lumen range.

Thanks MarDuke and Black Rose.

Your input is appreciated.

The PDF link its appreciated, though no run time info. :( Energizer makes quite a few lights. I found some energizer lights at brightguys.com within the past hour and it's got me thinking about Energizers Light on Demand Wall Plate; an emergency area light / flashlight combo for my mom.

Maybe I'll get her a flashlight too for outside and to store in the car?

Anyway thank you MarDuke I see now I can get from Home, to Technical Info, to Data Sheets. Useful PDFs. :D

Black Rose.....
Rule 5 says it's okay to link? I want to follow the rules thanks for providing them. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly. I like the general rule of thumb you provided too! 1 watt 45 Lumens, 2 watt 80 Lumens. I can remember that.
5. Posting articles and links

Articles from other sources are welcome. Links to other websites are welcome. Do NOT post the entire article on CPF! 9 times out of 10, this would be an infringement on copyright. Limit what you post to around 100 words and then post a link to the original source. Always post a link to the original source!

When posting links, please take a moment and have some consideration for the other members of CPF. Do not post links or URL's that are so long that they cause horizontal scrolling of the pages. Use the regular reply page instead of Quick Reply and follow the directions/prompts for posting or inserting hyperlinks.

And one other thing. If the link that you post leads to something of mature content and/or something that perhaps some of our members may not want to see, post a warning with your link.

3. Siglines, Avatars and Images

Avatars... As posted directly below where you put the URL for your avatar in your profile, 80 X 80 max pixels! No wider. No taller. And anything over 25K is too much. This is not up to negotiation. Animation is fine as long as it's not flashing and winking and blinking and strobing and generally distracting to the other members of the board. If people are scrolling through your posts just so they don't have to look at your avatar, what have you accomplished? In addition, nudity (whether partial or full) and/or pornography are not appropriate for this forum. This applies to animation and anime also.

Siglines... DO NOT use your sigline to bait and/or flame other members and/or the mods and admins of CPF. This behavior will get you banned quicker than just about anything else.

Siglines are limited to a maximum of 3 lines as a rule. But this is dependant upon the size of the font used (maximum size of 2 is allowed) and you may end up with more or less lines if linewrapping occurs due to contiguous strings of text.

Pictures in siglines... There is a limit of one image for siglines. Sigline images cannot exceed 500 pixels wide, 100 pixels high and 20k. This will ensure that the forums load quickly for all users.

Images... If you post an image in your post, please downsize the image to no larger than 800 x 800 pixels. In addition, DO NOT hotlink the images!!! Hotlinking is when you are stealing the bandwidth of a website that you do not have permission to link to. For example, if you see an image on the Surefire website that you want to post in a post of yours, download the image and then upload it to your own website or an image hosting site and then link to that image. Do Not link directly to the image on the Surefire website! That is called "hotlinking"... it is bad form... and it is stealing bandwidth that doesn't belong to you and you don't have permission to use in that manner. Members caught hotlinking will be asked to remove the link if they cannot correct it. Members who continuously have to be asked not to hotlink will lose posting privileges.

The runtime is listed in that PDF as "3 hours of useful light using lithium", which sounds like high mode, but really doesn't tell you anything.

Also, you cannot draw a general rule of thumb for how many watts is how many lumens with LED's like you could with incan. There is no direct relationship today. A modern LED of today will be over twice as bright as a previous generation LED when driven at the same "wattage". It is best to simply ignore the wattage entirely.

Sorry, I was referring to the red X's that were in your original post....they looked like they were pointing to an image on the Energizer site that you wanted to display in your post.

The links you have in your post are fine to my knowledge.

I went and took a look at this light tonight while waiting for my wife to finish work.

It has a Luxeon III LED in it. The emitter is identical the ones in my AA MagLEDs.

The light does seem to have a nice deep reflector and seems to have a slightly wider head than the Lux based AA MagLEDs.

Black Rose,

I understand what happen and understand your post now. You must have seen my post when I pressed "Preview Post". First I tried to insert an image, but it obviously didn't work. I just got that Red X. When I couldn't get that to work I just inserted the links instead.

I was testing trying to get the image to show up when you saw it. Thanks for letting me know its clear to me now.

Luxeon III, same as the multi-mode mini mags. I think the switch would be easier for my mom to use on the Energizer. The Mini Mage, with the twist on and twist for brightness changes, and twist for focusing...That may confuse my mom.

Though I think I heard the mini mags have two modes 10 Percent and 100 percent. That could mean longer run times on low. And it tail stands.

I'll have to think about it. Thank you for your help.

Marduke,

Thank you too for your comments. The three hour run time (sounds like on high) graph was too hard to see until I viewed it on a bigger monitor.

Thank you too for you help.

The new multi-mode MiniMag LED's have Rebel's in them, not Lux III's.

For the price, quality, and function, I think your mother would be happier with the Fenix E20 or L2T. They are simple 1 and 2 mode lights respectively. They are also within your budget. The TK20 is also on sale right now for only a few dollars more.

I think this light is now at Target for $25 I didn't look at the emitter though. I wonder if it is moddable to adjust the mode spacing and put a better emitter in it as I like the side switch.

There is mention of a Dorcy 80 lumen flashlight at $9.99 from Home Hardware in the Canada Good Deals thread over at CPFMP.
I saw the same thing under the NeXxtech name at The Source (formally Radio Shack Canada) at the same price.
Tail clicky 1 mode.
Not sure if a 2 mode is worth 4X the price.

-

4sevens Quark MiNi AA² is $43 -CPF discount.
4sevens Preon 2 is $43 to $55 -CPF discount depending on tint and bin.

I am aware the B&M stores have a much higher overhead than online stores. But CPF members can find much better deals at the same price than most Energizer, Duracell, Garrity, Ray-O-Vac and Dorcy torches.

EDIT
I like where Energizer put the switch though. Almost like a Zebralight SC series.
I have a handicap in my hands that do not let me operate tail click torches in tactical hold so I may hold my nose and cough up the extra money for the Energizer over the Dorcy/NeXxtech.
