I was at Fry's today and saw a new 3 LED flashlight from a company called "Coast"..

It's called the "V2 Tri-plex Photon Pump" - What an impressive sounding name!!

It looks to run on 3 "N" cells and costs $29

It has a barrel mounted push-button switch and appears to be pretty well made (from what I could see). The LED's are mounted in "highly polish" tubes for maximum "reflector action." I just might go back and buy one

They also had a couple of other (less exciting) single LED lights from this same company.

I saw one of these at Target last night. In plastic clamshell it feels very solid. It looks pretty nice too. It made NO mention of battery type (I figured 2aa), and when I scanned it for price was $29.95.

Since I is a cheap bastid, and haven't been to REI yet to check out Princeton Tecs, I left it at Target.

I would be interested in any first hand experience anyone might have with this light.

I suspect it is a Zveibruder light. They are the ones with the patents on photopump devices.

Their only review by Craig was a very small flashlight (their lowest end?) - he panned it.

I caved in...... went back and bought it.

As soon as I finish my dinner, I'm gonna have a "showdown at the flashlight corral" (My spare bathroom equiped with LM631 light meter) the competition wil be a 3 LED PT Attitude.

Results coming soon..

Where are they at Target? I was at Target looking for a Sauce Lightwand and could not find one. While I was there I looked everywhere and did not see one of these either. Maybe my Target is just retarded...

Side note: I ended up getting the Sauce from Toys be we. I don't know who invented "Try Me" packaging but I don't like them whoever they are. After taunting me through the package for a day or 2 the sauce has become mine

good thing my friends birthday isn't for a month, time to get another for him

Uhhh, sorry... the "sauce light wand" thread is down the hall, exit to your left please..

OK.. back to the topic at hand - The "Photon Pump" vs. "PT Attitude" !

Using fresh batteries measuring lux at one meter:

Photon Pump - 81 lux
Attitude - 79 lux

Conclusion:

* Attitude should have superior run time using 4AAA batteries vs. the Photon Pump's 3 "N" cells.

* Attitude costs $20 vs. Photon Pump $30.

* Attitude weights MUCH less.

* Photon Pump has barrel mounted switch.

* Photon Pump is visually MUCH brighter across the entire beam.

The Photon Pump is quite heavy and is advertised to have a STEEL body - and the battery tube on mine does stick to a magnet but appears to be an alloy. The Photon Pump (PP) seems to be very well made and is individually serial numbered. The PP's body is smooth and could be slippery under wet conditions.

The truth is the LUX meter doesn't begin to tell the whole story. The beam from the PP is FAR superior to the Attitude in side by side comparison. Testing the PP's beam against an (old style) INOVA X5 is much more fair. The X5 BARELY edges the PP but the PP's beam appears to be a bit more "distinct". The PP is actually a bit "crisper" than the X5

While the PT Attitude is probably just a slightly better value for the $, and I certainly have no regrets in buying this light what so ever. The overall LUX is fairly close on both of these lights, but the PP's beam easily out-powers the Attitude. For people who like METAL solid-feeling flashlights, this will make a very nice addition to their collection.

Overall, This is a very nice light and I really like it. My only gripe is that it's a bit heavy for loose pocket carry. Check it out!

It's under lithium battery lights - it uses two CR2 cells.

There is a plastic sleeve in the body that reminds me of using PVC pipe to mod a Mag 2D into a 3C. Mine did NOT come with a lanyard or holster - just the light and batteries..

I would not have bought it if it used the CR2 cells - too expensive. N cells are manageable tho..
