I recently saw a new handlebar mounted bicyle headlight made by Cateye (HL-EL500) at the local REI and wondered if anyone has seen it in action and if they could comment on its performance relative to a 5W Halogen lamp. I'd like to use this for mtn biking and would probably use it in tandem with a 5-10 Watt Halogen spot.

Looking into the lens, the LED's look like they might be a Luxeon Star. can anyone confirm this?

thanks

Its a 1W Luxeon, my friend was using it before he crashed and scratched his EL500. It does throw with some side spill and should be quite enough if u're cycling below 20km/h. If you ride faster, like me....my current solution is to mount a Light Cannon 100 HID for real throw and SF L5 for flood lighting on my MTB.
