Hi guys and girls, I found your forum while searching for upgrades to my Maglites and must say the wealth of information is overwhelming. I have done some research but want to post about my own needs in hopes of a little feedback.

I am looking to replace batteries in my house with all rechargeable ones and do a few flashlight upgrades to my 2 minimag axAA lights and my 4D maglite. I finally got this urge after owning a Fenix L2D for 2 years and watching my old Maglites sit idle and collect dust. I have been researching batteries and chargers and want the opinion of the members to see if I am making the right choice.

I currently own an eneloop "kit" that I bought from costco a few years ago that came with 8AA 4AAA a charger and 2 C and D adapters - I did this when I knew nothing about them they just looked cool in their blue case. It seems I should have bought a whole bunch of them by the looks of the pricing now.

Since I will need both AA and D batteries, I figured that the Maha MH-C808M would be the right charger to start with and then I would purchase a Maha MH-C9000 to only do my AA cells. Will the MH-C808M be a good start for both my older/used eneloop batteries and for new batteries? Or should I just fork over the money for both of them now? or some other charger? Suggestions on this?

For batteries it seems that the eneloop 2000 mAh AA are the way to go and that the AccuEvolution D cells are what I should go with unless I want to make up my own packs with some of the adapters, but seeing as I want to keep my life mostly simple and so that people around the house don't ruin anything, I will probably get the AccuEvolution unless there are reasons not to/something better out as of this posting. Also, at the price point, is it worth getting some of the Tenergy AA batteries to have around as well?

For modding my lights I just want to go basic on the MiniMags and thought that the TerraLUX MiniStar2 EXTREME (TLE-5EX) seemed like a reasonable option. Is there anything better at that 20ish dollar price point?

For the 4D light I really don't know, I see a lot of custom builds on this site (I wouldn't know where to start) and saw the drop in or what appears to be a drop in option TerraLUX TLE-300 . I would like to keep this light upgrade under $75. I can solder and modify things with the right direction. Is the p7 mod that much better than the TerraLUX TLE-300? Maybe start with the terraLUX and do the p7 to another light at some point. HELP!

Suggestions on the chargers, batteries, and light mods for those lights are suggested.

Go easy on the noob please :)

I waited until the Black Friday sales in November of last year, and picked up an LED AA and LED 2D Maglight in two different stores. Prices were about half of regular retail. My original 3D is gathering dust, and remains unmodified.

Hello Xdriver,

Welcome to CPF.

The 808M should serve you well.

Run a conditioning cycle on new cells the first charge and then they should be good to go.

As you come up with questions on how your batteries are holding up, you may want to get a charger that can analyze the batteries performance, but many people go through life without suffering terrible anxiety over the exact condition of their batteries.

I am not one of those people, but my wife could care less... :)

Thank you for the reply, it seems I am on the right track with the 808M, the AccuEvolution D cells, and the eneloops. Are the Tenergy batteries junk?

Any suggestions on my 4D Maglite or the MiniMags?

Also, I read that people need to sand down some of the maglites to fit the batteries in, I know this is the case with my minimag - are there any other creative/easy ways to widen the tube?
