New Constant Current Chargers (100W!)

Morning-

I saw these chargers yesterday- contacted the website- and they confirmed they were constant current units. I can't link to them directly I guess so they're available over at LedHomePlace and come in 24V/100W, 24V/60W, and 24V/30W. *(under strip lighting)

SO- my question out here is
1) Anyone own one of these units?
2) Anyone verified that the units available actually do put out at that power?
3) How hot do they get in operation? (notice the heat sinking on top?)

I notice they're CE/UL rated as well. I don't have the funds to pick one up right now (I bought 4x Xitaniums) but at almost 1/2 the cost of the Xitanium units I'm pretty interested to see if these are usable elsewhere.

Thanks in advance-

Jason

Yes, but I was told from reading the forum rules that I couldn't do that. So I didn't link to the exact item because I didn't want it construed as advertisement.

Anyways, thanks- if this is permissible.

The power supply in that link is a voltage source, not a current source. The 1.2 A number is merely the maximum rated current.

Also, I just reviewed the CPF rules about posting links. I did not see the prohibition you mentioned. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks.

When I had written the webmaster / site they indicated that those items were constant current- hence my extreme interest. Do you have firsthand knowledge of them then? I'll cross them off the list (as I really don't want to wire a bunch of bucks to regulate current). I did see a rather ingenious method of regulating a full string of LEDs with one buck driving a single diode- which may work for this application too.

Thanks for the info- and the clarification!

No. But I noted two things:

1. The description title is "Power Supply 120V-24V-30W". Standard practice for regulated voltage sources (aka power supplies) is to list the (fixed) output voltage and (maximum) power or current. Similarly for regulated current sources, the (fixed) output current and (maximum) power or voltage would be specified. This is standard practice, and there could be an exception, but...

2. ... the lighting strips that they're mated with contain their own driver. There's a bit that says "Manufacturer Warranty: 3 Yrs, Driver 1 Yr." And farther down it says that the input voltage range is 12 to 24V. And since the power consumption is almost proportional to the input voltage, that suggests an internal linear current regulator, which suggests that the power supply is a voltage source.

I'm also on the lookout for good AC-mains-to-LED drivers. But other than the Xitanium and MicroDriver series, I've not seen any nice ones. "Nice" meaning "UL listed" and such. I'm hoping the price will come down because I want to buy many of them, but can't quite justify the electric bill savings on them yet.

Excellent catch. I re-read the description 2x and still missed it- obviously too tired to be doing research.

Thanks again- I'll cross these guys off for now.
