As you could see by my avatar, I love the E2L. I just found out that there is an even better model with the Cree LED.

I see on Battery Junction's website that there are two models, one that goes to 45 lumens and one that goes up to 60 lumens and has dual output. Surefire's website doesn't mention two models, did they discontinue the 45 lumen model? What's the deal with that lower output model?

I'm really curious about this new E2L, anyone know the timeline of it?

What do you want to know? The single stage KX2 (head) did 45 lumens for nine hours with five hours of declining light. I haven't seen runtime graphs for the duel stage, but I'm sure it has excellent runtimes as well. Level switching is done electronically in the head of the light; low comes on first followed by high.

The previous E2L with the single output KX2 head was released summer 2007. It was determined to run about 9 hours in regulation on 2 primaries.

The current E2L has a the dual output KX2 head and was released just a few months ago. At that time the single output version was discontinued, though some retailers may still have them on their shelves.

The dual output KX2 head is sometimes called the "KX2B". These heads have a 'B' etched into the head below the model number, but I don't know if this 100% true for all dual output heads.

I don't recall seeing any runtime numbers for the KX2B, but I would guess about 6 hours in regulation on high output.

Thank you Nathan!

So Surefire's rating of the newer dual output head at 60 lumens for 11 hours is the total runtime, it will only be in regulation for 6 hours?

Yes, the 11 hour figure is total runtime, including reduced output. Full output, regulated runtime is far less. And just to be clear, 6 hours for the KX2B is just a guess - it might be less than that.

SureFire seems to use the question, "How long will a set of batteries last?" to determine their runtime numbers. It's a fair way to show runtime, specially for those who want a simple answer.

I have no problem with it, as long as there are people here who have the tools to measure regulated runtime, and are willing to share that info.

Thanks for the info!

Hopefully someone with those tools will measure the newer dual output E2L, I am really interested!
