\"New\" Energizer folding LED lantern

I just bought a couple more of these at Office Depot, $4, good deal...

Even better, there has been a (minor) design change. The high/low switch no longer selects between one or both 'tubes' lighting (which is intended to mimic the big version that uses D cells and drives fluorescent tubes) but now drives both on both ranges.

With NiMH cells, it's 30 mA (total) on low, 60 mA on high.

I like it better.....

Zman, do post if you try that mod. I love these little lanterns, and just got in on the groupbuy of those new LEDs...

Cool, I could use a couple of these for camping.
Are these on sale? The OD website still shows them as $15.09

I think those might be the 4 D-cell versions. The 4AA version has 2 LEDs, and I've never been able to find them on their Web site (haven't checked lately). Price in NYC Office Depot stores was $3.29 as of a few weeks ago.

I replaced a couple of the old style folding LEDs with 26K LED's.

Very easy mod and easily 2 - 3 times as bright.

I also replaced the LEDs in a Twintask 2L. It is now abou twice as bright as a X5T

Thanks for the replies Dave and Doug. I happened to be at OD yesterday for other supplies and remembered to look for the light. Got one for $3.xx :) Not terribly bright, but a real bargain for a nice multipurpose light with long runtime.

Thanks,
Gabe

I used one as a night light when hurricane knocked my power out for two days. I used it on low and found after being use to the darkness it was plenty bright to light up the room to see enough to get around. Nice too knowing it will run 100 hours on low, maybe more til it goes out.

In the past week I have seen these Energizer 4AA folding LED lights at two Big Lots stores. They were priced at only $2.99 at both stores.

These are really GREAT little lights! At that price, one doesn't even have to be a "Flashaholic" to own a "bagful"! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
