Oh no!!!! just when the idea of making a custom headlamp was ready to go into effect.. this thing comes along
Cheapest price too (so far):
Browning Zero Gravity Headlamp
Click on the "zoom in" option and then choose the headlamp thumbnail. The bezel is definately AL, but can't tell if the battery holder is. The bracket is some sort of plastic

But all said and done... a nice good-sized reflector with optic (and yeah, what's with the 'hole in the middle of the optic.. reflection? camera angle?).. and a single AA. Why are companies still using 1W luxeons?????:sigh:

Have a few coupons for cabelas ready to go.

Thinking Q5, 2 mode 7135 (HI-950mah, LO-150mah), .8-6V power, couple o'14500's, and maybe a waterproofing check?

What are your thoughts on this little browning gizmo?

***UPDATE***

are these related?... except this ones running a nichia.. and what the hey! it actually costs more?

is the power adjustable? sounds great to have another single AA headlamp to choose from.

This has been around for a little while, which is part of the reason it is 'only' Lux1. Plus, Lux1's are readily available in quantity, have proven beam quality (as opposed to Cree-ring XR-E and tint gradient SSC) and are very cheap.
This light used to be $40-$50 if I remember, so if it's only $25 here, then it may be a good deal, but with only one level (apparently) then it would benefit very well from your proposed 2-mode mod and more likely a neutral SSC, Rebel, or Cree XP-E with the stock optic (cheaper and more flexible) and diffuser film (better flood than reflector). I'd also go for a 3-level 25mA, 100mA, 500mA driver.

I may have to look into one of these to replace my PT EOS. I'm itchin' to get away from 3AAA HL with high-med-low to a 1AA or 2AA with low-med-high. I I use low 90% of the time. The Zebra H30 is my current fave - it has the best UI anywhere for a HL, I just wish it wasn't soooo floody. The 25degree optic I put in my EOS gives the perfect HL beam with a combo of gentle spot and flood without a reflector's hard edge spill cut-off.
I want to see better pictures (can't see the zoom in option on my crackberry).

Nixed that order to cabelas.. the idea is there though.. as posted earlier, it is the same as the one from KD/DE. Still working on all of the headlamp componenets for another project.. we'll see.. all in all though.. it would make a good platform for modding.
