Hello
this is my first post here, and not a good one.
I bought a new L2D-CE, and on the first time I used it for more then 5 minutes, after one hour it explode with a very strong sound. I couldnt hear nothing for a minute. I put inside a recharged GP 2700mAh batteries, and the flashlight was on the open air and didn't warm.

Did it happened to anyone ?

Probably just an outgassing event with the NiMh batteries. They were overdischarged by the L2D CE and the result was an inflating and popping of the rubber tail cap cover rubber. It has happened to others before, there are pictures of a huge inflated balloon looking L2D CE tail cap etc.,

I'm surprised the OP didn't notice the rubber boot swelling on the tailswitch before the out-gassing event... and, don't feed it any more bean burritos .

Yea, that happened to mine also, without the blowout!

I noticed mine after it had balloned and unscrewed the head to let the gas out, luckily no damage was done to mine, hb.

Welcome to CPF,

The gases needed somewhere to go, and bang goes the rubber tailcap boot, did your light come with a spare?

does the L1d have a different tailcap or what? does this happen with nimh only or alks and e2 lithiums as well ...all batteries vent gas but are nimh more gassy or something:drool:

It's nice to know that tailcap protects against the "pipebomb" syndrome.

I've read of it happening with both NiMH and alkaline cells.

Fenix should really include a pressure relief valve in tailcap to prevent this.

Streamlight, Pelican, and Underwater Kinetics include relief valves on various lights that cost way less than these Fenix models. Streamlight LED Tasklights that cost 13 bucks have pressure relief valves.

I think I read somewhere on CPF that it is more likely to happen on multi cell setup than on single cell light. And even more when the batteries charges differ. If someone else can confirm this?
