I was looking at a new military vehicle today when the headlights caught my eye. They look like a replacement for the standard round type (I can't remember the #) headlight. It is a series of emitters using a combination of reflectors/optics. The optics are embedded in a plastic disk in front of the emitters which all are in a small reflector. Low beam is the top half on, high beam is all on. All I had was my cell phone for pics.

humvve i would assume. could you get some beam shots for us? i would imagine they would need like killer throw for cars and stuff like that.

NICE FIND!!!

Looks interesting....wonder what LEDs/ reflectors/ ans optics are used:thinking:

The HMMWV doesn't have marker lights adjacent to the headlamps like these photos show, but you got me thinking.

I'm guessing the photos are from an AM General FTTS Prototype. Matches this photo very well:

The primary goal of the FTTS program is to double MPG from the HMMWV. I expect all contenders to use every trick they can to save energy, LED lamps are probably just one of those tricks.

A stock HMMVW has a 25-gallon tank and gets about 12 MPG, giving it a 300 mile range. The FTTS needs to go 600 miles on the same 25 gallons.

The reflectors are a one piece molded unit, there are 12 LED's, I believe they were Crees, was kinda hard to tell for sure. The optics are also a molded piece of plastic that sits out in front of the emitters. I only had a few minutes with the vehicle, which is now gone.

I forget what they called it, but I doubt it is the high mileage vehicle, it is heavily armored, looks like a HMMWV but bigger. Opening the door is like opening a vault door. This thing is very heavy, and has a turbo V8 diesel. I'll ask around and see what I can find out.

Or maybe this the HUMVEE Cobra:

"7 months ago: AM General, the makers of the US Army's Humvee, show off the new Humvee Cobra which has the new V-shaped hull to better protect against roadside bombs during the 2007 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition 09 October 2007 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC"

Notice that the headlight is LED too.

Or maybe it's a vehicle similar to this:

Did it look something like this:

Yes, very similar and a 4 door version. I asked some questions around work, It is the ECV2. I can't imagine this thing being "energy conserving". The one we had here was all one color, looked like a deliverable vehicle.
