Newly Enlightened
I just received this PR2 LS bulb. I ordered it a few weeks ago and at the time I was told that they had just begun shipping from new stock which was much improved. It looks a little different from the pictures I have seen. This one does not have the prominent waist flute. The PR2 base portion is a simple cylinder. Also, the dome over the led is a hemisphere, not flattened. Is this an HD?
I am very impressed. The colour is beautiful white without a trace of green that we seem to hear about so often. It is also very bright. However, since this is my first LS, perhaps I am too easy to please.
This is the 6V version of the bulb and it runs great in my 4D mag. But this is an awkward flashlight so I'm still looking for a permanent home for it.
Currently it has a home in my Turtlelite 1. The Turtlelite relector works well with the bulb giving it a reasonably tight, bright hotspot. But I think the bulb is asking for a deeper reflector (like the Mag). Of course heatsinking is a problem in this plastic light. After running for various times and checking the bulb, I think 10 minutes continuous runtime is the most that I would be comfortable with. But that might be enough for my purposes.
Ideally, I need a compact 4AA aluminum flashlight with a deep reflector. There are no collimator-type optics on this bulb. I don't really care much about focusability. Can anyone suggest a suitable body?
