new m*gcharger question ...

I own the MagCharger and I have it in my hand and I'm looking right at it. It is "ALUMINUM". Arioch, the upgrade from 30 to 40k is only the "New high output lamp". It is well worth the $3.50. I use my MagCharger everyday. I love the improvement. Sure the beam isn't the best but I don't give a hoot! I have been using MagCharger for work for over 12 years and I Love It.

Chris,

Seems I remember experimenting years ago with blasting a glass lens, and it greatly diffused the light, but also cut down on the output. My etching was probably fairly coarse and heavy, so very fine etching is probably in order.

I also remember that the glass could be just barely etched, leaving some untouched areas between the etched areas. I never experimented further, as I only had a single glass lens to play with at that time.

I'd be interested to see someone try a small dot in the center of the lens, or maybe a ring, or perhaps partial etching, or anything else that might yield some usable results.

BTW - Love those Borofloats!

Illuminated - I'm going to mess with this a little. I like your idea of blasting a dot or ring in the lens. I'm due to meet with TL in an hour or so - I'll try it when I get home.

Chris,

Cool - can't wait to hear about your results. I keep thinking that "less" is better - just the right combination of degree, pattern and placement of the etching. This might likely result in lenses only suited to specific lights, but that wouldn't be a problem for me.

Good Luck - John

I have two old, used M/C's I bought w/o chargers. I use Powerstream high output 2.5 Ah "fighting robot" 1/2 D NiCad cells.

The W/A #01111 6.0 V 3.35 A 100 hour and #01160 5.0 V 3.45 A 550 hour bulbs each throw out much more light than the OEM bulb or an SL-35X LA. Each has the same run time as a SL-20X with a SL-35X LA as the amperage is about the same.

Just tried out the new Magcharger bulb ... what a difference a bulb makes!

Noticeably brighter(eyeball comparison).

Much improved beam focusability, with much less splotchiness and fewer of those parallel lines. I got the hotspot down to about the SL US' tightest beam.

IMHO, a highly recommendable buy.
