But why do you guys have 2 or 3 EDCs that are essentially the same light?

For me, it's because the Ra Clickies are that damn good. Why more than one? Because one light is no light at all.

On a separate note, will there be a 140/170 lumen warm white version in sight in the near future?

Another question in a similar vein is, is the current GD 170 emiter the most powerful emiter of the market that can be powered from a single 123 and stay at a usable temperature/runtime? Or can the Ra Clicky be in line for third party modification and upgrade?

I have 10 clicky's because I believe that they are the finest general purpose light on the planet and 10 makes 2 for each member of my family when we are outdoors (wife and 2 kids) and the other 2 are in my BOB. Let there undisturbed.

I don't EDC the Ra's because they are larger than is comfortable for me with dress pants on (I carry an Aeon in my pocket and Mako on my keyring) but if I am going somewhere that the size doesn't bother me, I bring a Ra.

Now the truth is, a bunch of my Clickies don't see much use until we are out of doors but it brings me a bunch of satisfaction seeing them all together.

So go a head... buy more Clickies🙂

I was just kidding, I don't really get it either. Why do women have more than one purse, why do I have several knives of the same size? Why do I own nine bicycles? It's an obsession. It's not an addiction yet because my financials aren't affected.

I knew that I wanted a thrower, and a compact form using CR123s.
Ra lights aren't exactly throwers, more general purpose.

And not to mention shoes I have ten pairs essentially they are the same, they all fit my feet 🙂

But really why more than 2 Ra's?,well last time I checked it's still legal to own more than 2.

Now!what EDC do I get next,I know another Ra

Why do I have 50 sets of firesteel? Why do I have 30 zippo lighters? Why do I have 10 pairs of safety boots?

I really can't say.

But, I'd like me 10 Ra Lights 😛 I'm asking Henry if he has the warm white at a higher lumen instead of just at 100.

yes and my 12 fisher space pens ,so when I add it up I have more than 2 of most things so why not at least even the Ra count up.

BTW +1 on the warm white over 100 lumen :twothumbs:popcorn:

If there is a >100 lumen version, I'd purchase it without hesitation :sold:

Yes I have more than one of these also 😉

Grant Peterson of Rivendell Bicycle fame once said:
paraphrased: "If you find something you really, really like buy a lifetime supply because sure enough the company will stop making it..."
I think he was talking about wool hats and friction shifters but it is oh so true in many consumer products. Generally things that are made really well are also made expensively and sooner or later the manufacture (and stockholders) will get the great idea of making it cheaper or discontinuing it altogether.

How long did the original run of HDS EDC's last? 3yrs at most right? We are lucky Henry survived the Novatac debacle for a second round.

I long for a replacement Marmot 3D jacket, and they ruined the windshirt in subtle ways when they went to overseas manufacture. 🙁

Totally agree... when you find something that works for you, buy two of them if you can afford it. :broke:

That advice works well with regard to low tech items, e.g., boots, gloves, etc.

But, it has not served me well with items in which the technology or features change rapidly. I want either the improved version or a competitor's better version when it becomes available in a few months.

This is from a user's perspective. A collector's perspective would be entirely different.

Great point and I couldn't agree more. That rule applies more to clothing, footwear, etc. where technology is not as rapidly changing. But for flashlights where newer and brighter LEDs are being continually released, I don't think it is nearly as applicable.

I think we have seen that Henry lights are so good they are worth upgrading the LED. ($11 + solder and time)

After the initial Novatac release the aftermarket price of HDS lights actually went up. (So much for the competitors better version). I would still rather have a U60 than a Novatac 120P.

Unfortunately with regards to high tech athletic shoes they deteriorate at a constant rate even when left NIB and if not utilized within a somewhat short time period will be a waste. Trust me :-(

I am a delighted owner of one B42 and two U60 and I love my RA Clicky (a custom Clicky is on the way, too). I am also using a NT 120P.
Let's not forget the long times of silence between the old and the new HDS products. Many of us were glad about the "stopgap" multi-functional lights from NT.
Imho the NT EDC's are still very reliable, good flashlights.
But sure, my heart beats for the RA/HDS lights. 😉
