Newly Enlightened
I was at walmart earlier and happened to notice they have the new rayovac "platinum" batteries, which are labeled as 2100mah batteries. I didn't really bother to note the price or the model # unfortunately. However, next to them were new "Precharged" rechargeables which looks to have replaced their 1600mah everyday rechargeable line. They didn't have a marked capacity, but when I turned the pack over, the model # was LD715-4OP:thinking: these are about $13.50 for an 8 pack/$7.50 for a 4 pack, are precharged and have the same a similar model # as hybrids (ld715-4A). If these are hybrids then what the heck are the Platinums??? When I went to Rayovac's website, I didn't find any info (as expected) but what I did find was a $3 off coupon found here at the bottom of the page. For $11, I just may stop back at wallyworld on the way home from class to figure out what's what.
BTW, On rayovac's website, they rate the platinums for 400 photos and the precharged everyday use for 300. Also, they've changed the charge retention rating (on both the everyday-use and Platinum) from 80% over 60 months to 60% over 12 months. They still show 80% @ 6mo, but just took it one step further. I don't really know which sounds more apealing to me, but it's definitely an odd switch. I sure would like to spend an afternoon with Rayovac's marketing department to pick their brains.
[EDIT] used the coupon to pick up a 4 pack for just under $5. They're in a discharge test right now on a bc-9009. OOP voltage was 1.336v on all four cells. When I first opened the package, I noticed they felt light when I was holding a pair. Sure enough, they're about 3.5g lighter than my ROV 4.0 cells .
Out of package charge averaged just under 1400mah - highest being 1401, lowest being 1460. The full capacity won't be known until tomorrow morning after a charge and another discharge.
After looking around a bit, I found these are Rayovac's new OPP (that's Opening Price Point - not the other OPP) Precharged line, and apparently shouldn't be available until May (I feel so special!) I still can't find any capacity info anywhere though. ♫You down with OPP? Yeah, that's my Bat-er-ee!♫
