Nice review I have a question You quoted MJ as saying that the SCIII would buck and boost I do not remember him saying anything more than it would handle 4.2v li-ions mine #38 draws about .94a on a cr2 and 1.32a on a li-ion rcr2.

That was from the CPF thread see here :-

CPF Thread

I assumed that the SCIII used in this light has the same features. If not will someone please let me know and I will correct this.

Thanks

Mark

Very good review! I have one "in transit"; I have read through the threads and would still like a "definitive" answer about re-chargables? Is anyone using the battereis and charger from "Sterling"? "Christoph" what rcr2 are you using, apparently you are conforable w/ it?

Thanks for the insights, help and any comments.

Cones,

What camera do you use? Your macros are very nice.

Hi Billson,

Canon 1DMKII with a cheapish Canon Compact Macro EF 50mm f2.5 along with a home made light tent, two Speedlight 550EX flash units and a remote ST-E2 Speedlight transmitter to trigger it all. I would love to add the Canon 180mm Macro Lens in the future.

Here's a pic /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks

I got the rcr2's from sterlingtech(?) they are 300mah.the light gets hot faster using the li-ion.I wonder if it is dd'ing it at over 1 amp initally. It is way brighter on a li-ion.

Hi Cones,

Thanks for the very detailed explanation but the only thing I understood is that you have a very high tech setup. No wonder the pictures are so good. All I've got is a Canon SD100 and the most it can do is take respectable pictures nothing like what your setup can do. What is the light tent for?

...and very expensive setup. You're looking at around $5000+ worth of equipment there! ($4000 camera alone) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

The light tent helps reduce harsh shadows from the flash & give a nice even all-round lighting.

Flashlight,

Thanks for explaining. Good thing I have no interest in photography. Flashlights suddenly seem cheap compared to this.

Re: New Review Katokichi Ichishiki CR2 Limited Edi

You will get good results with any camera by using the home made tent or even a white sheet draped over a clothes horse. Along with a silver reflector (Tin foil and cardboard). Turn the flash off on your camera and take photos in good daylight. Use the reflector to light the opposite side to soften the shadows. Takes a bit of work but you don't need to spend silly money to get decent results.

Just like we don't need to have the latest $300 light to see in the dark! LOL

It's a shiny gadget thing I think. Plus I use the high speed 1DMKII at airshows and model flying events. Using it for webshots is a luxury.

Cones,

Thanks for the tips. I'll try that next time I photograph one of my lights.
