I posted a while back about installing a Leadlight module in some kind of a flashlight. I've done it now....

A really easy conversion that only involved making an adapter and slight modification to the head. Best of all, I can still get another of the various heads available for this light and change the laser out in a few seconds.

If you want a cool water-resistant laser, this may be the way to go for you too. If you've never taken your laser out and used it in the rain, you're missing one of life's greatest joys. It really looks neat!

Thanks to Kessler (Or some such spelling(?). The moderator guy.) for the tip on the E2 for the type of light to try.

Thats a great mod...vee3

would you consider making up a few of those adaptors
and offer them up for sale?
I am very interested in say (5)

I don't have the time to make any more, but I'd be glad to make up a sketch and post an explanation of how to do it if anyone is interested. It's really easy, but you do need a lathe.

Remember also that it's not just the adapter, the flashlight head has to be taken apart and machined also...

I would be interested to see this sketch and I'll watch and wait for it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif You have to be pretty smart to figure that out there.

Here you go...

Had to take a pic, scanner not working.

Instructions:

Get E2 series Surefire. Remove head from light and unscrew lens bezel (It will be tight. Factory uses thread locker. Use a lighter to heat the head a little to soften it up). Bore and face per print. Clean off chips, deburr and put it back together.

Make adapter bushing (Aluminum) per print. It's all simple lathe and drill press (Or mill) work, except for the little protrusions required at the bottom of the .125 holes. These have two functions - One depresses the switch on the laser module. The other holds the black plastic goodie in place on the driver board so it can't move. You could acheive the same thing by leaving a small area inside the .475 dia a little smaller (Like .040 dia less). I thought my way was easier. Be careful not to drill all the way through when drilling these holes, and go easy when using the punch. You don't want to blast all the way into the ID.

After the bushing is done, slide the laser into it (From the .750 dia end) so that the end of the brass housing on the lens end is flush with the end of the bushing. Be sure to line the switch up with one of the dimples on the ID of the tube so the switch is depressed. Install a 4-40 set screw to secure the laser in the adapter (You may have to shorten a 1/8" long screw a teeny bit).

Put the battery in so that the positive end is toward the rear cap, slide the laser/adapter unit in and screw the head on.

Now go take a shower with your new handy dandy toy...

Thank You Vee3 for those dimentions /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

Looks very easy..saves me some measuring.
I plan on making a few of these for friends

Do you mean Kiessling ?

No problem....

The measuring was more than half the battle. Making the thing was a breeze.

My next Leadlight mod will be a small aluminum housing with a 123A batt parallel to the module. Dimensions will be ~ 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 2 1/4. Nice to slip into a pants pocket...

Cool it worked out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
