Hi all, I'm new to the forum (great forum by the way)

I would like some advice on choosing a light, I work in a data center and need to read serial numbers off of servers, run cables under the floor and other things that require me to have a light.

Here's what I am looking for.

Under $100
Ability to change brightness
Ability to have light activate only while holding the switch as well as an on mode.
Something handheld but not key chain sized. I currently have a cheapo light that is about four inches tall, and I like the size.
I dislike the blueish colored light beams.
A holster or clip would be nice.

Thanks all

Under $100 = Check budget subforum
Ability to change brightness = Multi-mode
Ability to have light activate only while holding the switch as well as an on mode. = Momentary switch

I dislike the blueish colored light beams.

Boston Welcome to CPF. I recommed the Jetbeam RRT-0. About $100, Multi Level Output, Momentary and Clicky, Can use alkaline or rechargable AA(with AA extender), CR123s or RCR123s, might be blue but not too blue, the small JB holster is great light come with clip but it sucks has two clip holes but no clip to go with it can mod a Nitecore clip to fit. If you decide on this light get it from bugoutgearusa.com and dont forget to use your CPF discount code. Just my 2 cents.

If wire colors are important, as I suspect, you should look at a neutral tint LED light. The Quark line from 4sevens has a few that would fit your needs very well.
Tactical, for a forward clicky switch
Neutral tint.
Pocket clips, and holsters.
Many battery options.

Any particular reason you need momentary on? This will generally add length to the light, and make tail activated mode switching a little tougher. It also doesn't seem to work that great in my experience because, unless the switch has really long travel, you tend to over press and fully activate the light anyway.

Other than momentary on, the Quark AA regular is a superb choice for your needs. Most importantly for your purposes, it has a VERY floody beam, which is great for close up work. It's bright as hell, and has 4 very nicely spaced brightness levels accessed by soft pressing the tail switch, which is ideal for one handed use.

Get a Nitecore D10 R2 - plenty of light, variable brightness, momentary on mode, good size, runs from a commonly available AA battery and can work on a 14500 Li-ion. It cost less than $100 and the R2 is pretty neutral on the beam colour - certainly not an angry blue colour or anything.

Momentary On requires loosening the head 3/4 of a turn on the D10, which then disables the constant on. You can't have both with the D10 unless you are willing to deal with a hybrid twisty/clicky UI.

Otherwise, it's a fantastic light (I friggin love my Tribute).

+1 for the Quark, altough i prefer the tactical to avoid accidental mode activations, or for a cheaper choice a Fenix LT1

Quark AA*2 gets my vote. I buy the 'Tactical' versions of these lights and I bet I have given away about a dozen of them as presents. EVERYONE loves them. They are small, bright, floody and use common AA batteries.

The 'tactical' UI lets you choose two modes that will come on instantly depending if you have the head tight or loose.

Quark AA*2 Tactical XP-G R5

Can't go wrong with that light IMHO......................

Fenix TK11 is a very solid light that feels good in the hand.
