First off, my new E2L has such a green tint that I sent it back to SureFire for replacement. I compared it to a dozen or so other lights, including two of the current generation SureFire L1's and the E2L beam is just too barf green to live with.

Anyone else have tint issues with the new E2L?

It's been known to happen, there's a thread around here. There's probably a tint-complain thread for most LED lights on the market.

My E2L (one stage) was considerably more green-tinted than my other SureFires. Still not enough to become a problem when illuminating anything other than a white wall, though.

All part of the Tint lottery. Good thing you can still swap it.

I'm not a white wall hunter -- I noticed the tint long before I pointed it at my wall, which aren't white either :naughty:

Fair enough, if it is bad enough to notice in use then I wouldn't have hesitated to send it back :)

The problem lies with the emitter. If one light in a batch has that tint, almost all others in that batch will have the same tint since emitters are sold on reels of 250-500 emitters per reel.

SureFire didn't hesitate to give me an RMA.

What is the usual turnaround time with them?

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

Turn around is about 1 week to 1.5 weeks depending on distance from them.

CREE's are sorted by flux and tint bin. They don't just sell a reel of emitters with different tints. They would have a reel of CREE's with the same tint bin, such as WC, WG, WD, WF, WH, etc.

The "problem" lies with manufacturers that use multiple tint bins and don't tell the consumer what tint bin they are getting. Although a tint that one person finds horrible another person may love.

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

That is my point, when SF buys a reel it is one reel of icky green LEDs not just 10 or 20. The point I was trying to make is that within one batch of heads, they all will use LEDs off of the same reel, which means they are from the same bins.

Exactly. Some say that the greener tints are better for outdoors in and around green vegetation etc.

SureFire do seem willing to replace the flashlight in the event that the particular user is not satisfied with the particular tint of the SureFire they purchased.

The customer service representative was top notch, I'll give 'em that.

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

Mine looks whiter than my 45 lum version KX2 that has a little yellowish tint.

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

My new KX1 head has a greenish tint on low and what (to my eyes) seems to be a vanilla white on high. Maybe some slight green or yellow in there.

Outside it is definitely an advantage with greens (leaves, grass, etc.) seeming to "pop" more.

Glad Surefire is taking care of you. Hope the replacement works out!

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

The tint on my two-stage E1L and E2L is very white. The outside, however, is very black.

Re: New two-stage SF E2L has very green tint

I'll bet that doesn't work with my new two-stage EL2 or L1 does it?

It works with the E2L....they're the same mechanism as the stock E2L clickie.

It won't work with the L1. The L1's tailcap is the same as the A2.
