I new with this whole flashlight thing so please bear with me. My job requires the use of a flashlight and since I'm pretty rough on them, I'm kinda going the cheap route. I have two Hugsby s3 that I use daily and they have held up perfect for me. I want to use rechargeable 123a batteries and have read may post on the subject. I really need some of you to confirm my conculsions.

To run 3 rcr123a batteries in my 9v Hugsby, I first need to change the bulb to a 14v?

Its my understanding that this will cause the unit to run hotter, what do I do to help with this?

I know with the 14v bulb swap that the battery life will shorten, how much?

With the price of primary cr123a's, and the amount I go through, will I gain much with making the swap to rechargables?

recomendations on what chargers and batteries would also be greatly appreciated

I will be the first to admit that I don't know much on the subject, hence the reason I'm asking you professionals

Using the Google Search box near the top of the page, search for "hugsby s3" turns up a few threads that might be of interest to you - also a general web search on same - discussions about replacing with an LED, and also apparently there's a 12V model of or bulb for this light that will take 3 RCR123.

As far as running hot, since the 12V model is sold specifically stating RCR123, the light probably won't overheat.

Runtime will probably be shorter so be sure to get enough sets of batteries to last for your longest needs - I suggest AW brand RCR123 (a.k.a. 16340) to avoid problems. There are lots of discussions on chargers, the Pila is the best one but lots of people use the WF-139 or others successfully (with a little care - mainly, remove from charger when it indicates done instead of leaving them in overnight).

The gain will be "free lumens" - no more worries about buying batteries (esp. if you buy retail instead of bulk on the web), or disposing of them, or wondering whether you should keep using the partly-used ones in the light or put in a new set - now you can always put in a new set.

P.S. It's possible you'd get more responses with a more specific subject (you can change the subject of your first post), perhaps "Hugsby S3 - how to upgrade to use RCR123?" or similar.

Thanks, i read those and was still a little confused. Thanks for the reply, I was thinking maybe New folks were not welcome here;)

No problem - of course newbies are welcome - if you still have questions, ask away! And by the way,
