I tried to search a bt but couldnt find a direct answer:

PZ says that the MYO XP cannot be used with primary Li batts OR with LiION or NiMh

does anyone know why? is there a solution (without resorting to moding the electronics with boosters/converter and such)

thanks
Mike

Not too sure about the litiums, but I have been running mine with Nimh's for years with no problems at all. During the winter, I use it like this quite often and never had a problem.

Replied to your other thread,

You could also consider just popping two Lithium AA in the battery pack, and using a "bridge/ dummy battery" to take the place of the third.

Not an expert myself, but done it in practice a couple of times.

Read UnForgiven's post in the headlamp forum entitled "MYO" and "MYO Belt" Headlamps RECALL for more information. I know it doesn't specify the XP, but the problem seems to stem from a design element common across the MYO line.

IIRC, it says that the recall was prompted because of fraying where the battery line enters the fixed outer housing that holds the rotating head. Something about the plastics used, either the outer casing, insulation around the metal wires, or possibly both, degrading over time because the materials are not flexible enough.

In my simple mind I can see where the extra voltage in LiIon batteries might pose more of a threat of jumping an exposed gap, but wonder why NiMH were included. Also, though I don't own one so I can't tell for sure, but are they feeding a flat or oval power line through a round hole there? Seems perhaps like a round peg in a square hole sort of issue …

I think its simply a problem with the Petzls habbit not to integrated any Regulation. The Petzl lamps cant use Lions because they cannot take the higher Voltage.
With a proper regulation installed that would be no problem.

I would say ALL petzl lights are far from beeing cutting edge technology. The only upside is that they are making clever and usable designs.
